TICONDEROGA, NY – State police have disclosed the preliminary findings from the autopsy of nine-year-old Molina Frat, revealing that she died from asphyxia due to drowning. Authorities are seeking public assistance in gathering information about the car she and her father were traveling in during the nine days leading up to her death. The vehicle, a 2024 gray Toyota Prius, was seen around the Northway, particularly between exits 28 and 20, near Lake George, on Saturday evening.
Her father, Luciano Frat, 45, was arraigned in Ticonderoga Court, facing charges of murder and concealment of a human corpse. He is accused of ending his daughter’s life at the conclusion of a planned father-daughter trip, just before she was due to return to her mother in Montreal. Police allege that he attempted to hide her body beneath a log in a shallow pond in Ticonderoga and then called the police, concocting a story about a possible abduction from Lake George.
The arrest came as a shock to acquaintances in Montreal, who expressed disbelief upon hearing the news. “There was nothing to suggest he could be violent or harm his daughter,” said one acquaintance.
Reports indicate that Frat was facing significant financial difficulties. According to Canadian sources, he was embroiled in debt and had recently been sued by a bank for over $150,000 in unpaid credit card balances. He is scheduled to appear in court again in Ticonderoga on Friday.
The Ticonderoga community is mourning the loss of Molina, with many expressing their sorrow over the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. Vigils and memorials are being planned to honor her memory.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the movements of the gray Toyota Prius in the days before Molina’s death to come forward. They hope this will shed light on the tragic events that unfolded.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling details of the case.
Police emphasize the need for cooperation from the public as they piece together the timeline of events. They remain committed to seeking justice for Molina.
