In Kemi Badenoch’s latest reshuffle, Sir James Cleverly will be joining the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government in what is seen as a key role taking on Angela Rayner.
He is expected to take the fight to Labour on housing, especially given they have slashed housing targets in cities like London, while also focusing on Conservative causes like keeping council tax low.
Kevin Hollinrake will become Conservative Party Chairman. The successful former businessman, is seen as having led the fight, alongside Tory councillors, in showing up Labour and Reform councils errors.
Stuart Andrew has been appointed Shadow Health Secretary, replacing Ed Argar who has stepped back for health reasons. He has previously worked for the British Heart Foundation and in roles for children’s hospices, now being hit by the Government’s jobs tax.
It is expected that he will take the fight to Labour on the summer of strikes set to hit the NHS.
Nigel Huddleston will become Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, having been a DCMS minister during and after the pandemic, alongside working in these industries before entering parliament.
ConservativeHome understands there will be more appointments later in the day.
