An off-duty CBP officer was shot in the face and arm during a robbery attempt in New York City. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem identified the attacker as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican national in the U.S. illegally with a long criminal record. Mora had been arrested four times and was supposed to be deported, but was released due to sanctuary city policies under Mayor Eric Adams. Secretary Noem blamed Biden-era immigration failures and praised the officer’s heroic response, crediting President Trump’s border policies as the safer path forward.
