A Florida man was arrested on Friday after a 3-month-old baby was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries, including broken and healed rib fractures, a healed fracture on a leg, and tension fractures to the upper arm.
The baby was admitted to HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital on March 29 and transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center for further treatment, WFLA reported.
But James Longendyck, 33, wasn’t arrested until Friday, when he was charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
“Harming a defenseless child is inexcusable,” said Sheriff Richard Del Toro. “If you harm a child or prey on the most vulnerable in St. Lucie County, you will be held accountable. Our deputies will find you; they will arrest you, and you will face the full force of the law.”
Longendyck was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Further details on the child’s condition were not provided.
