Hungarian tech and telecommunications group 4iG has signed a series of high-profile cooperation agreements with major United Arab Emirates companies, marking a significant step in Hungary’s push toward deeper regional and global digital and defence integration.
The company announced on Thursday that it had entered strategic partnerships with e&, the UAE’s leading telecom company, and Mubadala Investment Company, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds. In parallel, 4iG’s space and defence subsidiary (4iG SDT) signed three preliminary agreements with defence giant EDGE Group to jointly develop cutting-edge military and aerospace technologies.
The agreements were announced during the official Budapest visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, accompanied by top political and business representatives.
According to 4iG, the partnership with e& and Mubadala aims to boost bilateral economic ties, with a strong focus on telecommunications infrastructure, digital transformation, and technology investments in both Hungary and international markets.
The 4iG–e& collaboration includes planning and deploying subsea data cable systems to enhance digital connectivity between the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. A key part of this initiative involves the joint development of a data centre in Albania to support undersea traffic, alongside potential digital infrastructure projects in Hungary in cooperation with PPF Telecom.
The deal merges e&’s global telecom expertise with 4iG’s strategic role in the Western Balkans and its experience in terrestrial infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the agreement with Mubadala opens the door to capital market, acquisition, and investment cooperation, with special focus on Hungary and the wider Western Balkan region. Mubadala manages a portfolio worth over 330 billion dollars, with major holdings in space, digital infrastructure, and global tech innovation.
4iG chairman Gellért Jászai said these partnerships are central to the group’s domestic and international growth strategy, expanding its reach in markets across Hungary, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Western Balkans.
Separate from these deals, 4iG SDT announced the extension of its strategic relationship with EDGE Group, launched earlier this year. The companies signed three new agreements covering advanced defence systems and space technology.
The first agreement outlines joint efforts in developing state-of-the-art defence and space solutions in fields such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS), counter-UAS, and space applications. Cooperation will include joint infrastructure development, product distribution, and technology transfer.
The second agreement explores the co-development and potential manufacturing of two key defence systems in Hungary—the SkyKnight air defence missile system and the SHADOW cruise weapons platform. It also includes the possibility of creating a joint venture.
The third agreement focuses on integrating and adapting EDGE’s VEGA (Unmanned Traffic Management) and ORION (Drone Fleet Management) systems to European standards. These systems would be localized for Hungary and prepared for broader European commercialization.
The ultimate goal of the 4iG SDT–EDGE partnership is to produce NATO-compliant export-ready defence technologies.
