A female athlete from Maine on Tuesday recounted feeling “defeated” when forced to compete against a biological male.
Cassidy Carlisle, a Nordic skier, joined Florida AG James Uthmeier for a press conference to discuss women’s sports. She explained to attendees that everything she had worked for in skiing “shifted” once forced to compete against a biologically male opponent in high school.
“I wasn’t losing because I lacked discipline or drive. I was losing because the playing field wasn’t level,” she said. “It left me feeling defeated, not just as an athlete, but as a young woman who believed that hard work should mean something.”
Carlisle also told attendees that when she was 13 years old, she encountered a biological male in the locker room at her school. She said that when she raised concerns, she was instructed to use a separate bathroom, forcing her to “choose between my privacy and my education.”
