New York City Mayor Eric Adams raised more money than Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani over the last month – in their respective bids to become mayor.
Embattled Adams has chosen to run as an independent in the November election, as has former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who last month lost to Mandani in the party primary. He raised $64,000.
During the most recent filing period, from June 10 to July 11, Adams raised $1.5 million, nearly half of which came from outside New York City, The New York Times reported. Among those funds include eight donations he received from Florida on the day of a fundraiser he had there earlier this month with people who are aligned with a Young Republicans group and President Trump. Those eight donations totaled $2,325.
Mamdani, a democratic-socialist, has made some New York business people uneasy with some of his campaign promises, which they see as anti-business. Adams has met with some business and real estate leaders to strategize about how to defeat Mamdani and has received donations from real estate firms.
