Survey On Harris Has Surprising Result

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has hit a notable speed bump in her potential bid for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, as new polling shows a decline in support amid shifting dynamics within the party’s base.

A newly released poll from Echelon Insights, conducted between July 10–14, places Ocasio-Cortez in fifth place among likely Democratic primary voters, with just 6% backing her as their top choice. That marks a 2-point drop from the group’s previous survey—a modest but telling setback for a candidate who recently captured national attention in a Quantus Insights poll that ranked her as the frontrunner.

The latest results place Vice President Kamala Harris atop the list with 26% support, despite slipping six points from earlier numbers. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg follows at 11%, maintaining a consistent second-place position across recent polls. But the biggest upward shift belongs to California Governor Gavin Newsom, whose support jumped five points to 10%, signaling increasing traction as he undertakes a podcast and media campaign positioning himself as a centrist alternative.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a 2020 presidential candidate whose campaign failed to ignite that cycle, came in fourth with 7%—a stronger-than-expected showing considering his relatively low public visibility in recent months.

Ocasio-Cortez’s drop comes as scrutiny mounts over her association with Zohran Mamdani, a far-left New York City mayoral candidate with openly pro-communist rhetoric. Ocasio-Cortez has been one of Mamdani’s most visible allies, holding rallies and campaigning on his behalf. While her base remains highly energized, the national spotlight on Mamdani’s controversial platform may be affecting her broader appeal among primary voters.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, viewed as a moderate and potential unifying figure, climbed to 4%, up from 2% previously. He continues to enjoy strong favorability in his key swing state and is considered a serious contender for the national stage.

Trailing the field at 3% were Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and businessman Mark Cuban. Governors Andy Beshear (KY) and JB Pritzker (IL) followed with 2% each, as did Senators Chris Murphy (CT) and John Fetterman (PA).

Further down the list, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX), Sen. Raphael Warnock (GA), media personality Jon Stewart, and commentator Stephen A. Smith all earned 1% support, with several other names polling below that threshold.

Interestingly, when Kamala Harris supporters were asked for their second-choice candidate, 14% selected Tim Walz and 13% chose Ocasio-Cortez—suggesting that while AOC’s current momentum may have slowed, she remains a significant figure in the party’s future conversation.
