Left-wing school districts across America have been trampling on parents’ rights for years.
Woke administrators thought they could keep getting away with it.
But Florida’s new education commissioner just demolished parents’ biggest nightmare with this one crushing move.
The radical Left has been waging war on parents since the moment they stepped foot in America’s classrooms.
They’ve pushed transgender ideology on kindergarteners, hidden curriculum from moms and dads, and treated concerned parents like domestic terrorists.
But parents in Florida just got the champion they’ve been waiting for.
New education commissioner makes parents’ rights his top priority
Florida’s new Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas didn’t waste a single minute when he took office on Monday.
While most politicians spend their first days getting comfortable and meeting staff, Kamoutsas had other plans.
He immediately fired off a five-page memo to every superintendent and charter school leader in the state that left no doubt about his priorities.
“Florida does not merely recognize parental rights – we protect them, celebrate them, and continue to expand them,” Kamoutsas wrote.¹

The message was crystal clear: If you’re a school administrator who thinks you can ignore parents’ rights, you’re about to have a very bad day.
Kamoutsas didn’t stop there.
He directed every single superintendent to make sure their employees understand Florida’s parental rights laws inside and out.
No excuses. No exceptions.
“As one of my first acts as Commissioner, I wanted to make it known that in Florida, if you violate the rights of parents and teachers, I will be knocking on your door,” Kamoutsas posted on X.²
That’s the kind of tough talk parents have been dying to hear from education officials.
Florida schools get marching orders on parental rights
The new commissioner’s letter spelled out exactly what Florida’s parental rights laws require.
Parents have the right to review all instructional materials used in their children’s classrooms.
They have the right to expect instruction that encourages individual responsibility instead of assigning guilt based on a student’s background.
And they have the right to know that their children’s education is objective, factual, and aligned with state academic standards.
Schools must provide a one-to-two-minute moment of silence at the beginning of every day.
Restrooms and changing areas must be designated for exclusive use by boys or girls.
And here’s the kicker – schools can’t assign pronouns that don’t correspond to a person’s biological sex.
“A person’s sex is an immutable biological trait and that it is false to ascribe to a person a pronoun that does not correspond to such person’s sex,” the letter stated.³
Try explaining that to the woke crowd who’ve been pushing gender confusion on kids for years.
Kamoutsas also reminded school districts about Florida’s Safety in Private Spaces Act.
This came after reports that biologically male campers were assigned to cabins with female campers at Alachua County Public Schools’ summer camp.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier had to issue a warning about that disaster.
It’s exactly the kind of woke nonsense that parents are fed up with.
Teachers get backup from new commissioner
But Kamoutsas didn’t forget about Florida’s teachers either.
He sent out a separate three-page memo reminding principals that teachers have rights too.
The Teachers’ Bill of Rights gives educators the authority to control their classrooms and set their own rules.
“School principals are reminded that these are not optional practices. They are requirements under the law, designed to uphold the authority of teachers in the classroom and to ensure a respectful, orderly learning environment for student academic achievement,” Kamoutsas wrote.⁴
He made it clear that failure to comply with these provisions is a violation of Florida law.
Teachers can request a Special Magistrate if their concerns aren’t resolved at the school or district level.
Finally, educators have someone in their corner who understands that they need support, not more bureaucratic red tape.
Parents get new resources to fight back
Kamoutsas also directed superintendents to send a letter home to every parent outlining their rights under state law.
But he didn’t stop there.
He provided parents with a link to the Attorney General’s Office of Parental Rights – a first-of-its-kind resource where parents can file complaints about violations of the Parent’s Bill of Rights.
“These rights aren’t just written into law. They’re rooted in the shared belief that families must be central to every meaningful decision in a child’s learning and development,” Kamoutsas told parents.⁵
This is exactly what parents have been asking for – real tools to hold schools accountable when they step out of line.
No more being brushed off by arrogant administrators who think they know better than parents.
The perfect choice to lead Florida’s education system
Kamoutsas brings serious credentials to the job.
He’s served as general counsel and chief of staff for the Department of Education before becoming deputy chief of staff to Governor Ron DeSantis.
He helped champion and carry out a massive expansion of school-choice programs that have given parents more options than ever before.
The Florida State Board of Education appointed him in June after previous Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. was appointed to be the Interim President of the University of West Florida.
Governor DeSantis recommended Kamoutsas for the position, and it’s easy to see why.
He’s a lawyer who understands the law and isn’t afraid to enforce it.
“School principals are reminded that these are not optional practices. They are requirements under the law,” he wrote.⁶
That’s the kind of no-nonsense approach that parents have been waiting for.
What this means moving forward
While left-wing states continue to treat parents like the enemy, Florida is leading the way in protecting families.
The commissioner’s tough stance is already getting attention on social media.
Some commenters are cheering his position, while others are questioning whether all parents will have the same level of support.
But that’s exactly the point – in Florida, parental rights aren’t negotiable.
They’re protected by law and enforced by officials who actually believe in them.
Other states should be taking notes.
This is how you restore sanity to America’s schools.
You put parents first, support teachers, and make it clear that woke ideology has no place in the classroom.
Florida’s new education commissioner just showed the entire country what real leadership looks like.
And parents couldn’t be happier.
