Joe Biden’s open border policies created chaos across the nation.
But one Governor refused to sit back and watch criminals flood his state.
And Ron DeSantis just ripped apart the border crisis with one game-changing move.
Florida takes the lead where Biden failed
While Joe Biden spent four years rolling out the red carpet for illegal aliens, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis never stopped fighting to protect his state’s citizens.
Now DeSantis has scored a major victory that puts Florida at the forefront of immigration enforcement.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement just received federal certification under the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement 287(g) program.¹
This isn’t some bureaucratic paper shuffle.
This is Florida getting the tools to do the job Biden refused to do.
FDLE agents now have unprecedented authority
The 287(g) program gives state and local law enforcement the authority to enforce federal immigration laws that the Biden administration ignored.²
Florida’s specially trained agents can now interrogate suspected illegal aliens, detain those found in violation of immigration law, and arrest anyone attempting unlawful entry into the United States.
They can also serve warrants for immigration violations and transfer detained individuals directly to ICE for removal proceedings.
“With 287(g) credentials in hand, our FDLE Special Agents and Capitol Police officers are better equipped than ever to remove criminal aliens from our state and support our federal partners in securing the homeland,” FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass said.³
This gives Florida law enforcement officers the same authority as federal ICE agents when it comes to immigration enforcement.
It’s a force multiplier that Democrats can’t stand.
DeSantis builds the model other states will follow
Larry Keefe, Executive Director of the State Board of Immigration Enforcement, explained what makes Florida’s approach so effective.
“Governor Ron DeSantis has built a model in Florida where state and local law enforcement don’t just assist in immigration enforcement—they lead it, shoulder-to-shoulder with our federal partners,” Keefe stated.⁴
The program specifically targets criminal aliens who are already incarcerated, ensuring they get removed before they’re released back into communities.
That’s exactly the kind of common-sense approach that Biden’s administration fought against for four years.
DeSantis announced Florida’s partnership with the 287(g) program back in February, but it took months of training and certification to get FDLE agents ready.⁵
Now they’re officially empowered to issue immigration detainers, prepare charging documents for ICE review, and maintain custody of detained aliens prior to transfer to federal facilities.
This prevents the catch-and-release nightmare that Biden created.

Florida shows what real border security looks like
The timing couldn’t be better.
President Trump is already working to secure the border and deport criminal aliens who Biden allowed to flood into the country.
Florida’s enhanced enforcement capabilities will be a huge asset in that effort.
Commissioner Glass made it clear that Florida won’t back down from this fight.
“Under the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida continues to lead the way in combating the threat posed by illegal immigration,” Glass declared.⁶
The 287(g) program is named after section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1996, which permits ICE to delegate specific immigration enforcement authorities to trained state and local law enforcement.⁷
But most states never bothered to pursue this partnership.
They were content to let the federal government handle immigration enforcement.
DeSantis refused to take that approach.
He knew Florida’s citizens deserved better protection than Biden was willing to provide.
Democrats hate when states step up
This certification represents everything Democrats oppose about immigration enforcement.
They want sanctuary policies that protect criminal aliens.
They want catch-and-release that puts dangerous individuals back on the streets.
They want federal agencies that look the other way when illegal aliens commit crimes.
Florida’s 287(g) certification destroys that entire playbook.
Now Florida law enforcement can identify criminal aliens in custody and make sure they get removed before they’re released back into communities.
They can arrest people attempting unlawful entry through Florida’s ports or coastal waters.
They can serve immigration warrants and collect evidence for federal prosecution.
The program gives FDLE agents the authority to administer oaths, take sworn statements, fingerprint suspects, and prepare affidavits for ICE review.
It’s comprehensive immigration enforcement that actually works.
A blueprint for America First immigration policy
What DeSantis has built in Florida is exactly what President Trump wants to see nationwide.
State and local law enforcement working hand-in-hand with federal agencies to remove criminal aliens and secure the border.
No more sanctuary policies.
No more catch-and-release.
No more turning a blind eye to immigration violations.
Florida’s 287(g) certification shows what’s possible when governors actually care about protecting their citizens instead of virtue-signaling to the Left.
Other red state governors should be taking notes.
The tools are available to fight back against illegal immigration.
DeSantis just showed them how to use those tools effectively.
Biden’s border disaster created a mess that will take years to clean up.
But Florida won’t be waiting around for the federal government to fix everything.
They’re leading the charge to remove criminal aliens and secure their communities.
That’s what real leadership looks like.
