Washington County is moving to increase property taxes by 38% to pay for the library district’s expenses.
The Washington County library levy is currently 22 cents per thousand (property assessed valuation) and this proposal would increase it to 37 cents per thousand — which is an eye-popping 68% increase!
By doing this, the County could conceivably pull back from General funding of the library to save itself money while sticking it to property owners.
