Pam Bondi dismisses fake vaccine card charges in a move that immediately halts the federal trial of Utah plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Kirk Moore. Pam Bondi dismisses fake vaccine card charges after reviewing evidence that included challenges to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regulations and accusations of government overreach.
Dr. Moore and several co-defendants were indicted in 2023 for allegedly replacing COVID-19 vaccines with saline, discarding federally supplied doses valued at more than $28,000, and issuing at least 1,937 falsified CDC cards for $50 each. Prosecutors also brought counts of conspiracy and conversion of government property. Moore pleaded not guilty; two co-defendants accepted limited agreements, while one remained on trial alongside him until Saturday’s dismissal.
Defense filings argued that pandemic-era mandates exceeded constitutional limits, a claim Bondi’s office said warranted fresh scrutiny. In announcing the decision, the attorney general stated that “the years-long prison terms on the table were disproportionate to the disputed conduct and underlying legal questions.”
The Justice Department has not confirmed whether charges will be dropped for Moore’s remaining co-defendants. A spokesperson declined further comment on the status of ongoing plea or diversion agreements.
Bondi publicly thanked Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for highlighting the case, calling her “instrumental in exposing potential governmental overreach.” Greene labeled Moore “a hero who refused to inject his patients with a government-mandated unsafe vaccine.”
The dismissal comes amid broader turbulence at the department: sources say FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is considering resignation following clashes with Bondi over an internal review of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. While unrelated to Moore’s case, the dispute underscores ongoing tensions within federal law-enforcement leadership.
Legal analysts note that Saturday’s action does not preclude future civil proceedings or professional licensing reviews against Moore. However, the criminal matter is now closed unless the Justice Department seeks reinstatement—an unlikely outcome given the attorney general’s definitive statement.
For the moment, the ruling represents a significant pivot in federal COVID-19 enforcement strategy and raises fresh questions about how pandemic-era cases will be adjudicated under evolving public-health and constitutional standards.
