For years, many conservatives have demanded that the Department of Justice (DOJ) release information regarding associates of deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Yet in an unexpected twist, some Democrats are now attacking President Donald Trump for not being more forthcoming on the issue.Â
Rep. Jamie Raskin: “This is not an ideological thing”
According to Breitbart, one of them is Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, who recently suggested that the lack of transparency is “dangerous to public health and safety.”
“Right now, we are in a very extreme period of conspiracy theory and hysteria over this thing, and understandably so,” Raskin said during a Monday appearance on MSNBC’s “Dateline.”
The congressman recalled how during last year’s election, Trump and many of those in his cabinet “were alleging a massive, basically human trafficking, child sex abuse conspiracy ring.”
“If that were true, that would be of profound significance and importance to everybody in America. That’s not an ideological thing or a political thing,” Raskin told host Nicolle Wallace.
Trump defends Pam Bondi’s handling of Epstein issue
“We’re a society which is seen terribly traumatic cases of massive child sex abuse in churches, in schools, in colleges and universities, including Michigan State and Ohio State,” he pointed out.
Raskin went on to accuse Trump of having “performed a complete 180 u-turn,” something which the lawmaker condemned as “an irresponsible way to proceed.”
For his part, Breitbart reported that the president defended Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Epstein issue in a social media post this past weekend.
He also responded to Democrats’ new-found interest in Epstein, writing, “Why didn’t these Radical Left Lunatics release the Epstein Files? If there was ANYTHING in there that could have hurt the MAGA Movement, why didn’t they use it?”
Epstein apparently causing cracks in Trump’s administration
Meanwhile, the New York Post reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino may resign after clashing with Bondi over the release of Epstein’s alleged client list.
The article cited a Trump administration source who indicated that the pair had a heated exchange before adding, “I don’t think Dan comes back if Pam stays.”
The source also speculated that FBI Director Kash Patel may depart along with Bongino, remarking, “Kash and Dan have always been aligned and it’s unclear what would happen in that situation, but, you know, both of them have fought for transparency — and in a world where that’s being stifled, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them stand up for that.”
