California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) couldn’t resist a cheap shot at Vice President J.D. Vance (R) over the weekend after learning that Vance and his family were at Disneyland together on vacation.
“Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t,” Newsom wrote on X.
But Vance didn’t take the bait and only responded, “Had a great time, thanks.”

More protests
Upon seeing the posts, protesters quickly assembled in Anaheim to express their displeasure with Vance and the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
The protesters just aren’t giving up even though the National Guard and other military quelled previous protests in Los Angeles after they turned violent.
The comments between Newsom and Vance came weeks after two ICE raids on farms that led to the detention of several hundred illegal immigrants. One person died after the raids and several others were critically injured.
The raids also turned up at least 10 minors, 8 unaccompanied, amid suspected child labor violations at the farms.
Newsom’s claims
Newsom has tacitly encouraged protesters with comments indicating that he does not agree with President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
He called the military response to the protests “illegal” and a “breach of state sovereignty” because his administration did not give permission.
He claimed that the state had the protests under control and didn’t need military intervention even though weeks later he requested $2 billion in disaster relief from the Small Business Administration.
Video footage of the protests shows numerous businesses being looted and torched.
Newsom also publicly criticized the raids on the farms because ICE agents used tear gas on the migrants to flush them out and subdue them.
The comments directed at Vance are just the latest volley by Newsom, who many think has presidential ambitions but may run afoul of the majority opinion on immigration, which agrees with Trump.
