Ohio police confirmed they have someone in custody after a disabled 8-year-old boy was found dead on Saturday.
Hershall Creachbaum, who was autistic and nonverbal, was found dead about 12 hours after Dayton police issued an alert regarding his disappearance. The Dayton Daily News reported that he used a wheelchair, which was also found during Saturday’s search.
It is unclear where Creachbaum’s wheelchair was located in relation to his body. Reports indicated that Creachbaum could walk short distances without his wheelchair.
Though Dayton police have not publicly identified the suspect, Creachbaum’s family and three sources told WHIO that Michael Kendrick is in custody. Kendrick’s connection to Creachbaum is unclear.
Miami Valley Jail records stated Kendrick was booked on preliminary charges of murder, felonious assault, child endangerment, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, and abuse of a corpse.
Creachbaum’s cause of death was not disclosed.
