A New Jersey police chief faces explosive accusations from his own daughter, who filed a lawsuit claiming he orchestrated years of ritualistic abuse as part of an alleged neighborhood cult.
The allegations have sent shockwaves through the small Bergen County community and sparked intense debate about the investigation’s handling.
Courtney Tamagny, 20, filed the lawsuit against her father, Leonia Police Chief Scott Tamagny, along with neighbor Kevin Slevin and multiple government agencies.
The young woman alleges the abuse began when she was approximately 4 years old in 2009 and continued until 2020.
The lawsuit describes horrific scenes where Courtney claims she was taken into woods in Rockland County, New York, where masked men participated in what she describes as ritualistic activities.
The court documents detail allegations of fires, animal burnings and chanting during these alleged gatherings.
Multiple perpetrators allegedly assaulted Courtney during these woodland ceremonies, according to the filing.
The lawsuit claims these events occurred alongside other disturbing activities that the plaintiff characterizes as cult-like behavior.
The allegations extend beyond Courtney to include her sisters, who the lawsuit claims were also subjected to abuse.
The court documents allege that Chief Tamagny used drugs to sedate his daughters before assaulting them when their mother was either absent or sleeping in a downstairs bedroom with earplugs.
Courtney’s mother, Jeanne Tamagny, joined the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff and is currently pursuing divorce proceedings against her husband.
The legal action names multiple defendants, including the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the State of New Jersey and various child protective services agencies.
The young woman claims she suppressed memories of the alleged abuse for years as a survival mechanism.
According to the lawsuit, these memories only resurfaced after a doctor’s visit for genital pain, during which a medical professional asked about potential sexual abuse.
Court papers indicate that Courtney’s therapist reported the alleged abuse to authorities in 2022.
This report triggered an investigation that has since been described by defense attorneys as thorough and extensive.
Courtney expanded on her allegations during an appearance on the podcast “We’re All Insane” in April.
She claimed that generations of her father’s family line participated in satanic cult activities alongside numerous neighbors in their North Jersey community.
During the podcast interview, Courtney described alleged activities including child trafficking and ritualistic killings in local woods.
She claimed the neighborhood participants used underground tunnels to conduct covert operations.
The podcast appearance included detailed descriptions of alleged cult activities involving “taking kids’ blood,” “drum circles,” and overnight “burnings” of animals, animal skins and humans.
Courtney suggested these activities were designed to terrorize victims into silence.
She described alleged “games” that she claims always ended with children being assaulted, according to New York Post reporting.
One activity she termed “Hunter and Gatherers” allegedly involved releasing up to 10 children into the woods to hide before cult members would chase them down.
“They made it as if it was a game and you could win,” Courtney stated during the podcast.
“You weren’t going to win, you were always going to be hit, they just wanted you to look terrified and run.”
Courtney also alleged that her father used his law enforcement position to maintain control over the situation.
She claimed that attempts to seek help were consistently blocked due to his professional connections.
Both Chief Tamagny and Slevin have categorically denied all allegations.
Slevin’s attorney, Kevin Corriston, described the claims as fabricated and stated that extensive investigations by multiple agencies found no supporting evidence.
“This entire complaint was previously investigated by everybody from Homeland Security, to the Attorney General’s Office in New Jersey, to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and they found no basis at all for these outrageous allegations,” Corriston stated.
The defense attorney characterized the allegations as “on their face unbelievable” and dismissed the possibility of a secret satanic cult operating in Riverdale, New Jersey.
Corriston suggested the allegations resemble plots from various books and movies.
Slevin has filed a countersuit against Courtney for defamation, claiming her allegations have caused him “extreme embarrassment and humiliation and severe mental distress.”
The countersuit alleges that Courtney’s statements have exposed him to public ridicule and damaged his reputation.
Chief Tamagny’s legal representation has similarly rejected the allegations as “completely false and defamatory.”
The case has created significant division within the small Bergen County borough, with community members taking sides.
