The bungled conclusion to the Jeffrey Epstein case continues to smolder and could be on the verge of blossoming into a roaring dumpster fire that could fracture the MAGA coalition.
To say that the Justice Department’s findings that the mysteriously deceased financier and sex trafficker committed suicide and that there was no incriminating “client list” or any “credible evidence” that he blackmailed politicians and other persons of influence was a major disappointment would be the understatement of the decade.
After nearly a week of calls for Attorney General Pam Bondi’s resignation or removal, finger-pointing, speculation about a cover-up, and a tone deaf exchange between a testy President Trump and a reporter, things took a serious turn for the worse on Friday.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is reportedly so disenchanted with Bondi’s handling of the nonexistent Epstein files that she once said were on her desk, that he was a no-show for work and is mulling quitting after less than four months on the job.
Devoutly loyal Trump supporter and influencer Laura Loomer broke the scoop that both Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel are “livid” over Bondi’s disastrous work on the Epstein matter with the former Fox News host and podcaster taking the day off with a question of whether he’s even going to return due to his disgust “with Blondi’s lack of transparency and handling of the Epstein files.”
SCOOP:@FBIDirectorKash and @dbongino are LIVID with @AGPamBondi over her DOJ Memo and the lack of transparency from her office regarding the Jeffery Epstein files.
Source tells me Dan Bongino is taking the day off today from his job as Deputy Director of the FBI, and there’s…

“Kash Patel and Dan Bongino should call for Blondi’s(sic) public resignation today to save themselves and to also push for full transparency into the Epstein files. This is an issue the American people care deeply about,” she wrote in a post to X, adding that Trump should just fire the former Florida AG, who has been mocked for her focus on being a Fox News regular, which some have inferred comes at the expense of doing her real job.
The reporting was later confirmed by the mainstream media, including Axios, which first published the DOJ Epstein memo, quoting a source close to Bongino who said, “He ain’t coming back.”
As if the heat under Bondi’s seat wasn’t hot enough, it was dialed up several more notches with reports that Patel could also resign along with Bongino if she isn’t fired. Two MAGA favorites whose nominations generated great enthusiasm with Trump’s base.
Earlier this week, the president jumped in after a question was asked of his attorney general
“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years,” Trump said during an open Tuesday meeting of his Cabinet. “Are people still talking about this guy? This creep? That is unbelievable.”

“I can’t believe you’re asking a question on Epstein at a time like this, when we’re having some of the greatest success, and also tragedy with what happened in Texas. It just seems like a desecration,” he added.
Unfortunately for Trump and his administration, a lot of people are still talking about the “creep” with CNN reporting that interest in Epstein has exploded since Bondi’s Justice Department tried in vain to nail the lid shut on Pandora’s Box.
The Trump admin’s handling of the Epstein files has been a massive unforced error.
Trump may wish it goes away, but Google searches for Epstein are up 1,200% this week. It’s the top topic searched with Trump today.

Also on Friday, Wired gave more fodder to the “conspiracy theorists.”

And no, you’re not a “Panican” if you point out the obvious that none of this is a good look for Trump, and his enemies are already circling like sharks in the water who have caught the scent of blood.
Trump should seriously consider tossing Bondi overboard at this point.
