Once again, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is breaking with the Democratic Party line, this time on ICE.
Fetterman is one of the few Democrats who support locking down our borders, but to go against the party on ICE was shocking even for him.
Fetterman stated that ICE “performs an important job for the country,” all while his fellow Democrats talk about defunding the agency and likening it to the Gestapo.
Vital role acknowledged
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been after ICE ever since she took her seat.
She is still pushing the narrative that ICE is an illegal agency that never should have been formed in the first place.
As part of a recent fundraising email, AOC wrote, “I believe that ICE, an agency that was just formed in 2003 during the Patriot Act era, is a rogue agency that should not exist.”
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) likened them to Gestapo agents during the Nazi regime. While giving a commencement speech, Walz stated, “And I’m going to start with the flashing red light.”
He continued, “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets. They’re in unmarked vans, wearing masks, being shipped off to foreign torture dungeons, no chance to mount a defense, not even a chance to kiss a loved one goodbye, just grabbed up by masked agents, shoved into those vans and disappeared. To be clear, there’s no way for us to know whether they were actually criminals or not because they refused to give them a trial.”
Some Dems in the Senate recently introduced legislation to remove the masks worn by agents during raids, which would allow their identities to be blasted all over the news. There is only one reason why Democrats would want this, and that is that they hope the agents suffer public harassment.
Additionally, people like Los AngelesMayor Karen Bass have taken to interfering with ICE raids, a move that will likely lead to an even greater increase in attacks against agents (which are already up 700% over the same period last year).
Fetterman is trying to break that cycle, stating, “ICE performs an important job for our country. Any calls to abolish ICE are 💯 inappropriate and outrageous.”
Honestly, this has more or less been his position all along, having stated in 2024, “I think two things can be true at the same time. You can be very supportive of immigration, but we also need to have a secure border.”
The problem with this entire narrative is that Democrats want everyone to believe that unauthorized entry into the country is illegal, and it plainly is. If you cross the border without going through the proper channels, you have broken the law, and that makes you a criminal.
Unfortunately, most people in the Democratic Party these days have taken to embracing criminals, not holding them accountable.
