Three female high school athletes in Oregon filed a federal lawsuit July 7 challenging the sports records set by “transgender” student athletes and asking the court to protect girls’ sports from transgender participation in the future.
OregonLive reported that all three girls have either been forced to withdraw from competitions or been ranked lower due to the participation of “transgender” male athletes. The girls’ lawsuit asks a judge to issue a permanent injunction to halt the competition of male athletes in female sports, arguing that allowing them to compete in sports that do not match their actual sex violates Title IX.
According to OregonLive The girls’ lawsuit names as defendants Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, who acts as the functional head of the Oregon Department of Education,, the Oregon School Activities Association, two school districts, and Portland Public Schools.
One of the girls, Madelyn Eischen, 18, said she withdrew from the girls high jump during a meet in April when she learned she would be competing against a male athlete.
“I definitely do not hate any trans athletes. I just think I am asking for fairness and protection,” she said, according to OregonLive.
The other two girls, who are represented in the lawsuit by their parents and identified only as S.C. and S.N.C., said they also experienced discrimination in favor of transgender athletes. S.N.C. said she withdrew from an April meet to avoid competing against a male participant, which she argues hurts her chances of winning college admission or athletic scholarships. S.C. placed third in a track competition in 2024, while a transgender athlete took first and second place.
OregonLive reported that the girls filed suit after President Donald Trump signed an executive order Feb. 5 promising to cut federal funding to states that allow men to play in female sports. The outlet also reported that Oregon education officials issued new rules in April in response, mandating that schools allow students to compete on sports teams that match their gender identity, not their actual sex.
