The political world is buzzing about a major revelation from inside the Trump administration.
A key White House figure just dropped some bombshell information about Florida’s governor.
And Susie Wiles found out one important thing about Ron DeSantis that changed everything.
White House Chief of Staff puts bitter feud to rest
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles made a stunning announcement that caught the political establishment off guard during her latest appearance on “Pod Force One.”¹
The woman who masterminded both Donald Trump’s historic comeback and Ron DeSantis’ narrow 2018 gubernatorial victory revealed that her bitter feud with the Florida governor is now completely behind them.
“I think he’s governing Florida — which is my home state — he’s a good governor, and whatever personal differences he had or whatever deficiencies he thought I had are long past my thinking about them,” Wiles told Post columnist Miranda Devine.²
But that wasn’t the end of her shocking revelations about DeSantis.
The nasty truth about what DeSantis allies really did
Wiles didn’t hold back when confirming just how ugly things got between her and the DeSantis camp after she helped secure his victory in 2018.
She confirmed that DeSantis allies “were very nasty to you and tried to really destroy your career,” according to Devine’s characterization of the falling-out.³
Wiles had built her reputation managing Rick Scott’s 2010 run for governor before she decided to help DeSantis after running Trump’s successful 2016 Florida operation.
DeSantis even praised Wiles as the “best in the business” during his victory speech.⁴
Just months after his victory, Wiles found herself suddenly fired from Trump’s 2020 campaign and forced out of Ballard Partners, the influential lobbying firm, because of mounting tensions with DeSantis’ team.
DeSantis’ team suspected Wiles had leaked internal documents showing how big donors could buy special access to the governor, including private dinners and golf outings.⁵
DeSantis denied ever seeing that controversial memo.
DeSantis tried to sabotage Wiles’ Trump comeback
When Wiles returned to the Trump fold late in the 2020 campaign, as polls showed him consistently trailing Democrat Joe Biden, DeSantis wasn’t about to let bygones be bygones.
She initially served as an unpaid adviser to that year’s Republican National Convention organizers.
The New York Times reported that DeSantis had his fundraiser, Heather Barker, secretly tell donors to stop giving money to support Wiles.⁶
It was a vindictive move that showed just how deep the bad blood ran between DeSantis and the woman who had helped put him in the governor’s mansion.
But Wiles got back on the winning track by assisting Republican Glenn Youngkin in pulling off an upset in the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial race and closely assisted Trump with his activities ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.
She then served as co-campaign manager alongside Chris LaCivita for Trump’s successful 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump’s victory over DeSantis had nothing to do with revenge
When asked about Trump’s decisive victory over DeSantis in the 2024 Republican primary race, Wiles insisted “it had nothing to do with me.”⁷
Despite the years of bad blood and attempts by DeSantis allies to destroy her career, Wiles took the high road when explaining Trump’s primary victory.
“It was the president’s time, and he did the things that a candidate has to do to get through those early primary states, the first four in particular [Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina],” Wiles explained.⁸
“The president had done it before; he knew what was involved. We had an organization, an apparatus that supported him and frankly, there was never any question that it was going to end up like it did.”
The thaw between Trump World and DeSantis
Wiles’ comments are the latest signal of a thaw from Trump World toward DeSantis.
At the opening of the “Alligator Alcatraz” internment facility for undocumented immigrants, President Trump praised his relationship with his former rival, saying they have “blood that seems to match pretty well.”⁹
“I think it’s a 10. Maybe 9.9, might be a couple of wounds,” Trump quipped. “I think we have a 10. We get along.”
The official version is that the conflict is over, even though ardent supporters of Trump and DeSantis may yet bicker online.
Trump even thanked DeSantis on Wednesday for helping rename a four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” calling the unanimous vote a “wonderful honor.”¹⁰
“Thank you to Palm Beach County, Governor Ron DeSantis, and all of Florida’s great State Lawmakers … I LOVE FLORIDA!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners voted 7-0 to apply the honorary name to the roadway from Palm Beach International Airport to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.¹¹
What this means for the future
Wiles’ diplomatic approach to her past feud with DeSantis shows the maturity and professionalism that made her Trump’s choice for White House Chief of Staff.
Her willingness to put personal grievances aside for the good of the conservative movement demonstrates why she’s been successful in Florida politics for decades.
The fact that she can praise DeSantis as a “good governor” after everything that happened shows that the grown-ups are back in charge.
This reconciliation between Trump’s inner circle and DeSantis could be crucial for the Republican Party’s future success in Florida and beyond.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, having Trump and DeSantis working together instead of against each other will be a huge advantage for Republicans.
The nasty chapter in Florida Republican politics appears to be closed, and that’s good news for conservatives everywhere.
