The State Department will lay off more than 1,300 employees Friday as part of a sweeping reorganization effort pushed by the Trump administration.
This will mark one of the most significant personnel reductions in the agency’s history, The Associated Press reported.
Layoff notices are being sent to 1,107 civil servants and 246 foreign service officers with domestic assignments, according to a senior department official.
The move comes after a recent Supreme Court ruling cleared the way for mass dismissals, despite ongoing legal challenges.
