Tiger Woods is known for being a legend in the world of golf, having famously won the Masters Tournament in 1997 at just 21 years of age.
However, the professional athlete made headlines for an altogether different reason this week after a physician suggested that his hair transplant surgery had failed.Â
Top hair surgeon looked 60 photos taken of woods over three decades
According to the Daily Mail, that argument was put forward in a YouTube video by Dr. Gary Linkov, who is regarded as a top hair transplant surgeon.
While Linkov has never treated Woods, the Daily Mail noted that he examined 60 photographs of the sports star which were taken over a 30-year period.
The doctor concluded that Wood, who is now 49, likely underwent hair transplant operations in 2012 and 2017, a timeframe which he believes to have been too early.
“Remember that even after the age of 35, there’s still progressive loss of hair. And for some people, that can lead to a still nearly bald appearance without any proper intervention,” Linkov pointed out.
Pictures suggest that golfer’s hairline was “looking a bit stronger” in 2012
“I think the primary population of hair in the frontal area is actually the transplanted grafts,” the cosmetic surgeon continued.
“It’s not the ideal scenario, but I think it still has given Tiger the ability to not appear bald because he has some of those hairs in the frontal zone remaining,” Linkov stressed.
The doctor then zeroed in on an image which was taken of Woods in 2012, saying, “What we see here is that Tiger’s hairline is looking a bit stronger.”
“And when I look at the side of the scalp… I am seeing what could potentially be some signs of FUT scarring,” Linkov pointed out.
Hair specialist says Woods’ case “highlights the importance of proper prevention”
Linkov later argued that Woods’ experience “highlights the importance of proper prevention of further hair loss or else surgical outcomes are not always that impressive years later if you don’t take the right measures to properly secure your existing hair.”
“People get overwhelmed sometimes with all the different options that exist online for their hair,” Linkov acknowledged.
“They’re constantly having things sold to them and marketed to them and they don’t know which way to turn, what’s actually going to work, what’s not going to work. What I tell my patients is to stick to the tried and true,” the hair specialist insisted.
