For years, supporters of President Donald Trump have held out hope that one day there might be accountability for the Russia collusion narrative that effectively undermined his first term in office.
This week, it was announced that the FBI is pursuing a criminal investigation of John Brennan and James Comey, the two high-ranking Obama-era officials many believe helped spearhead the Russia hoax, as Just the News reports, a move that is surely causing a sense of panic in liberal circles everywhere.
Investigation announced
According to Fox News Digital, sources from within the Justice Department confirmed that former FBI Director Comey and former CIA Director Brennan are indeed the subjects of a probe related to potential wrongdoing related to the aforementioned Russia collusion investigation.
The outlet noted that current CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence related to Brennan to current FBI chief Kash Patel for potential prosecution, doing so after declassifying a 2017 “lessons learned” review of the process behind the creation of an “Intelligence Community Assessment” that drove the ultimately debunked narrative of Trump-Russia collusion.
It is believed that the probe encompasses potentially false statements made by Brennan to Congress, though there could be other matters also under review, according to Fox News.
Regarding Comey, DOJ officials verified that a probe of the former FBI director is underway, though specifics of its focus remain under wraps.
Notably, though details of the Comey/Brennan probe are still unclear, two sources suggested that the FBI views the pair’s activities at the time in question as akin to “conspiracy,” which could leave them vulnerable to a range of possible charges.
Brennan reacts
On Wednesday, the former CIA head indicated that he has “had no contact” from the Department of Justice regarding the probe, as The Hill explains.
Speaking to Nicolle Wallace of MSNBC, Brennan declared, “I don’t know whether or not there’s any, you know, validity to it. If there is — it was a referral.”
Brennan continued, “If there is an investigation, presumably, if there is an investigation, that people will be questioned, I would be questioned about it. But again, I’ve had no contact from them.”
Declaring himself “clueless” as to why he would be under FBI scrutiny, Brennan suggested that any such investigation of him or Comey would be straight from the “authoritarian playbook.”
Then, right on cue, Brennan compared such a scenario to one from Nazi Germany and added, “If a president of the United States is willing to weaponize intelligence and justice…we really are in deep, deep trouble,” a sentiment millions shared when the Biden administration appeared to be doing precisely that.
Trump weighs in
Considering the years of targeting to which Trump was subjected after taking office in 2016, it is not surprising that he had a few choice words in response to the news that Comey and Brennan were under investigation.
As Axios notes, Trump stated on Wednesday, “I know nothing about it other than what I read today, but I will tell you, I think they’re very dishonest people,” adding, “I think they’re crooked as hell and maybe they have to pay a price for that.”
