A New Hampshire gymnastics coach on Wednesday emotionally advocated for limiting access to girls’ spaces to just biological females, describing her own experience sharing a locker room with a biological male.
Bronwyn Sims confronted the Keene, NH City Council during a meeting over calls to designate the city as a “sanctuary” for LGBT individuals. She raised concerns about “recognizing one group over others,” specifically highlighting female athletes feeling frustrated about biological males in women’s sports and spaces.
Sims then told the city council she wanted to share a “personal experience,” emotionally describing encountering a man after exiting the shower at a local YMCA.
“Feeling uncomfortable, I quickly moved to a private changing area,” Sims said. “This experience raised concerns for me about the safety and privacy of women in designated spaces, particularly for those who have experienced past trauma.”
“I believe clear policies and consistent enforcement are essential to ensure women’s and girls’ safety,” she added.
