Instead of arguing for a goal — like having a functional society, which would require sane attitudes toward diversity, globalism, and immigration — they argue for a method, namely letting every individual do whatever they want, regardless of the long-term consequences. To do this, they come up with any reason they consider a plausible justification for what they want, even though they are just using these reasons as tools and do not actually care about the Everglades. If they did, they would oppose the immigration that is eating it up in order to provide housing and jobs (construction) for the newcomers.
