The Chinese Communist Party has acquired 2.2 million acres of American farmland, and according to Senator Tommy Tuberville, “We got huge problems.”
Senator Tuberville explained, “It really picked up during the Biden administration.” He pointed out that the Biden administration elevated foreign sources for food over supporting American farmers. “They want all of our food to come from other countries,” he asserted. The “climate hoax” and rising input costs have placed extraordinary financial pressure on farmers, resulting in drastic declines in farm ownership. “We lost 150,000 farms in the last four years and 25,000 farmers. We can’t stand that,” the senator warned in an exclusive interview with The Liberty Sentinel, stressing the importance of self-sufficiency and an America-first agricultural policy.
Encouraging Domestic Agriculture
To address these challenges, Senator Tuberville articulated several necessary actions. He stated, “First of all, drill, baby, drill,” referencing the need for affordable energy to support farming operations. He also mentioned the role of tariffs in protecting domestic agriculture from foreign products that are underpriced to flood the U.S. market. Tuberville, who serves on the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, cited specific instances, such as the market for catfish, where imports have severely affected local farmers. “They’re running our catfish farmers out of business because we can’t compete with the price,” he lamented.
Regulations have also hurt American farmers, and deregulation must be a high priority, Tuberville said. “Barack Obama put so many regulations on our farmers… it really put them out of business.” He praised President Trump’s efforts to roll back these regulations, asserting that farmers should not be hindered in their ability to produce. “Nobody… believes in taking care of our land and our forest more than our farmers and our foresters… If we can do that, we’ll be able to save this country and even make better food and give a chance to be self-sufficient,” he insisted.
Future Legislative Actions
Senator Tuberville talked about Congress’s priorities following the passage of the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill.’ He revealed, “The House today will start a second big beautiful bill… we want to do another one by Christmas.” He acknowledged some criticism surrounding government spending, noting, “We’ve got to start cutting back on this $37 trillion in debt because your generation can’t afford… paying a trillion dollars a year on the debt that we have to pay.” He also hinted that perhaps a third “Big, Beautiful Bill” will be prepared for President Trump to sign on July 4, 2025, for America’s 250th semiquincentennial.
Senator Tuberville called for a return to fundamentals, emphasizing America’s greatness and the need to resist foreign influences while fostering local agricultural and legislative reform. “We’re not going to allow it to be run and run down by socialists and communists that want to take this country over,” he declared, reinforcing his commitment to the sovereignty and integrity of the United States.
Running for Governor
Finishing his first term in the Senate next year, Tuberville has officially announced a run to be governor of Alabama, noting that he would be better suited for an executive role: “Being a CEO or a governor of a state is pretty much like being a head coach,” referencing his experience as head coach at Auburn University. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Senate, affirming, “I want to finish strong as being a senator up in my first term.
