The protection detail making sure there isn’t a successful third attempt on President Donald Trump’s life had their work cut out for them over the holiday weekend.
North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) scrambled a fighter jet to intercept a civilian plane in restricted airspace, which could have been threatening the sitting president, as The Western Journal reported.
It was Saturday afternoon in Bedminster, New Jersey, around 2:40 p.m. ET, when the aircraft was found over the holiday retreat of the first family.
The trip out
According to the report from NORAD the aircraft was “escorted” out of the restricted airspace using a “headbutt” maneuver, to get the pilot’s attention and push him toward an acceptable area.
The move involves a military aircraft flying directly in front of the civilian at a close, distance, but one deemed safe. This allows them to create visual contact and signal the pilot ot either follow or move away.
The holiday weekend interaction was the fourth violation of the restricted airspace on that day, and didn’t turn out to be the last.
Later the same day, another invasion happened, making for five different aircraft found in presidential airspace. All of which were compliant and safely removed from the area.
From the Air Force
A 2nd Lt. Tyler Turnmire from Tyndall Air Force Base reported on the issue, saying that general aviation pilots are reminded that they have to verify with the Notice to Airmen with the Federal Aviation Administration before taking flight.
“NORAD employs a layered defense network of radars, satellites, and fighter aircraft to identify and respond to potential threats,” the base report stated.
“The identification and monitoring of the civilian aircraft demonstrate how NORAD executes its aerospace warning and control missions for the United States and Canada.”
Pilots’ homework
Officials in the area issued additional warnings to pilots who could be flying near the restricted airspace that they should do their “homework” before they take to the skies.
“If you’re flying anywhere near Bedminster, NJ, you’d better check NOTAMs 1353, 1358, 2246, and 2247,” 1st Air Force (America’s AOC) posted on X. “No excuses! Stay sharp, stay legal, and stay out of restricted airspace.”
Attention all pilots: If you’re flying anywhere near Bedminster, NJ, you’d better check NOTAMs 1353, 1358, 2246 and 2247. These TFRs are in place for a reason. No excuses! Stay sharp, stay legal, and stay out of restricted airspace.https://t.co/uIir745UjA…@NORADCommand

This comes months after the president was the subject of two assassination attempts while running for office.
The first took place a year ago in Butler, P.A., during a rally where the president suffered a gunshot to his ear. The second was when a shooter was found set up at the presidential golf course while the president was on site.
