This week, CIA Director John Ratcliffe announced the results of the agency’s investigation into the Russian collusion investigation against Trump and his campaign from 2016.
The Durham report later made it clear that the investigation never should have taken place.
Ratcliffe’s report, however, goes much further, as author and Fox News contributor Gregg Jarrett just made abundantly clear.
Set up
The report from Ratcliffe regurgitated some facts that we already knew.
For instance, after the Steele dossier was abandoned by an anti-Trump Republican, it was picked up by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC.
The report also verified that the dossier had been debunked by agency analysts, but then-CIA Director John Brennan still chose to lean heavily into that document, and then-FBI Director James Comey used it for FISA warrants, something which never should have happened.
For instance, the CIA’s deputy director for analysis at the time questioned “the credibility of the entire paper,” but that mattered little to Brennan, who clearly did not like Trump (remember, Brennan was among those who signed the now-infamous letter by former intelligence officials calling Hunter’s laptop Russian disinformation).
Garrett went on to call the investigation a “scheme,” quoting Ratcliffe as stating, “This was Obama, Comey, Clapper and Brennan deciding ‘We’re going to screw Trump.’”
In his book, Witch Hunt, Jarrett wrote, “Brennan and Clapper were spinning a deception. A prominent colleague contradicted them and produced documents as proof that they were not telling the truth.”
He went on, “In a classified letter to Congress, National Security Agency director Michael Rogers disclosed that the uncorroborated document (the dossier) ‘did factor into the ICA’ report. Having been caught in a falsehood, Clapper then repudiated his earlier statement. Brennan continued to deny all of it, the contrary evidence notwithstanding.”
In addition to John Clapper (Biden’s DNI) and Brennan knowing the dossier was unreliable, Comey knew the same, reporting, “He knew exactly where the dossier came from and who paid for it. He used it as the primary basis for the warrants, used it as part of the nonpublic version of the intelligence community assessment, and used it to debrief President-elect Trump so that it could be leaked to the media in January 2017.”
I have always believed that, among others, Brennan and Comey needed to be brought to justice for what they did during this investigation.
Brennan lied to Congress and knowingly used a discredited piece of intelligence to take down Trump, and Comey did the same, using the dossier to secure FISA warrants.
We can only hope this case does not ultimately come before some activist judge who will let them both off the hook.
