President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” is going to play a major role in the 2026 midterm elections.
In fact, Fox News reports that many members of Congress and potential members of Congress are already using it on the campaign trail.
What we are seeing is a battle for the narrative, with Trump and Republicans claiming that the bill will do great things for Americans and Democrats claiming the opposite.
Unsurprisingly, some anti-Trump Republicans are also joining the Democrats in opposing the bill.
A case-in-point
One example of how the “big, beautiful bill” is already being used in 2026 campaigns comes from New Hampshire, in the battle for one of its U.S. Senate seats.
Fox reports:
“I’m deeply concerned about this bill and what this will do. We’re going to be talking a lot about it,” Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas of New Hampshire told Fox News Digital on Friday. Pappas, who’s running in the crucial 2026 race to succeed retiring longtime Sen. Jeanne Shaheen for a Democrat-held seat Republicans would love to flip, took aim at the bill. “This was a one-party effort and unfortunately it arrived at a conclusion that I think is not good for our state and for our country,”
Former Republican Sen. Scott Brown, however, has a different point of view.
He said, “The things [Trump] said he was going to do, he’s actually done. For somebody in politics to actually do that I think is very rare.”
The bill, of course, contains many things that Trump promised to do, which is what Brown is getting at.
The battle lines have been drawn
Some so-called Republicans believe that the “big, beautiful bill” will do more to hurt Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections than to help them. Among these “Republicans,” is strategist Karl Rove.
“I think it’ll have a huge impact on 2026, because, remember, as these changes, particularly the Medicaid changes come into effect, they’re going to have, people are going to be losing their coverage,” he recently said.
The Medicaid cuts are one of the most controversial aspects of the bill. It is the main reason why some Republican members of Congress voted against the bill, to the dismay of President Trump.
Trump, in contrast, believes that the overall effect of the bill will be very good for America and Americans.
“The people of the United States of America will be Richer, Safer, and Prouder than ever before,” he said, after the bill’s passage.
