President Donald Trump announced Thursday that a UFC championship fight will take place on the White House lawn within the next year as part of an unprecedented celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
The event is expected to draw up to 25,000 spectators and headline a series of national festivities tied to the America250 campaign.
The announcement came during Trump’s speech at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, where he laid out plans for multiple large-scale events to honor the country’s semiquincentennial.
“Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight — think of this — on the grounds of the White House,” Trump said.
Trump said UFC President Dana White would oversee the event, which he described as a full-scale championship fight.
“We have a lot of land there, we’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it. Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people, and we’re going to do that as part of ‘250,’” Trump said.
The president has maintained a close friendship with White and has appeared at multiple UFC events in recent months.
Most recently, Trump attended a high-profile UFC bout in Newark between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley, the New York Post reports.
Shortly after winning the Nov. 5 election, Trump joined White at a UFC event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he was seen with Elon Musk, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Donald Trump Jr. and Kid Rock.
Though a full-scale cage match at the White House is likely to spark criticism from opponents, the event aligns with Trump’s push to connect directly with the American public and reimagine presidential tradition.
Trump’s visit to Iowa served as both a celebration of the recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and a kickoff to the America250 initiative.
The bill, passed just hours earlier, fulfills campaign promises to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security benefits.
“We’re going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events. But the UFC fight is going to be a big deal, too,” Trump said, previewing a wider slate of activities set to take place across the country.
In addition to the White House fight, Trump said each national park, battlefield and historic site will host “special events in honor of ‘America250.’”
He also announced plans for a “Great American State Fair” at venues across the country, culminating in a massive patriotic celebration on the National Mall.
Other planned events include the official opening of the National Garden of American Heroes and the launch of the Patriot Games, which will feature top high school athletes from all 50 states.
“Exactly one year from tomorrow, we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding with a birthday party the likes of which you have never seen before,” Trump declared. “Together, we’re going to ensure that America’s 250th anniversary is the single greatest year in the city of our country.”
