A $16-million settlement was reached between Paramount Global and President Donald Trump to resolve accusations that CBS’s 60 Minutes deliberately edited an interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris before the 2024 election, Paramount announced Wednesday.
Paramount Global agreed to pay the money to Trump’s presidential library and to release complete transcripts of any future interviews with presidential candidates after they air, minus necessary redactions made for national security reasons.
The settlement did not include an apology or any explicit statement of wrongdoing.
Paramount will also reimburse Trump’s legal fees in the case, which will be included in the $16 million, with the rest to go to his library.
Total is higher
A post on X said the full amount of the settlement will actually be $30 million, with another $15 million installment to be paid later.

It wasn’t clear to whom the second installment would be paid.
Shari Redstone, the chair and controlling shareholder of Paramount, pushed for the settlement so that a planned sale of the company to Skydance could move forward.
“The sale would end the Redstone family’s decades-long control of CBS News and Paramount Pictures and put it in the hands of David Ellison, the son of Larry Ellison, a tech billionaire who has backed Mr. Trump,” noted the New York Times. “Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has said that the president’s lawsuit against Paramount was not linked to the F.C.C.’s review of the company’s merger with Skydance.”
Not the first
The settlement is not the first one from a media company to Trump, however.
Months ago, ABC agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle a defamation suit brought against George Stephanopoulos by Trump for saying he was found “liable” of rape, which he was not.
Looks like the press’s days of overt bias and over-the-top untrue statements about Trump will be coming to an end, unless they want to keep paying out millions.
Undoubtedly, the media will find more subtle ways to continue its bias and slander against Trump.
Even so, he managed to win over enough voters to get back into office and maintain a decent level of support so far.
