President Donald Trump and billionaire former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk are fighting again, and it’s getting even more nasty than it did last time.
According to the Daily Mail, in a feud that once again escalated due to Musk’s stance on President Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending bill, the two powerful and influential men held nothing back as they traded barbs, including a deportation threat.Â
Trump went as far as suggesting he would look into the possibility of sending Musk back to his native South Africa, along with claiming that he would have the “DOGE monster” eat Musk.
The battle came as the two seemingly made up over the past few weeks after a brutal online fight earlier in June, again, due to Musk’s strong disdain for Trump’s spending bill.
What’s going on?
The president, as usual, held nothing back when describing to reporters what he thinks about Musk and his criticism of the spending bill.
“I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look,” Trump said when asked about his level of seriousness regarding deporting Musk to South Africa.
Trump added, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”
The Daily Mail noted:
The two men, once close allies, have seen their relationship take a bitter turn after Musk became a top critic of Trump’s signature tax cut and spending legislation known as the ‘big, beautiful bill.’ Musk is a naturalized American citizen but was born in South Africa.
Musk railed against the bill, complaining about its cuts to electronic vehicle subsidies and showing that it increases the country’s deficit. His complaints came as the Senate reached over 20 hours of debate on the legislation. It is expected to get a final vote on Tuesday.
Not surprisingly, Musk was ready to fire back, but in an X post, he expressed his willingness to not “escalate” the situation, much like he escalated it last time when he repeatedly attacked Trump’s spending bill and warned that it would wreck the American economy.
“So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now,” Musk said.
Musk’s threat
The Tesla and SpaceX billionaire threatened to form a new political party — the America Party — if Trump’s spending bill passes.
Trump responded to the idea by simply stating, “I don’t think he should be playing that game with me.”
The president, and many others, believe Musk is mad about the stripping away of EV mandates in the bill.
“Elon is not getting his mandate,” Trump said. “He’s not going to get his mandate and he better be careful. He might not get anything else.”
