LANSDALE, PA – In a shocking incident that unfolded under the cover of a stormy night, two teenage boys are fighting for their lives after their truck collided with a freight train on South Broad Street. The crash, which occurred around 2:50 a.m., resulted in a partial derailment, disrupting the area for hours.
Emergency teams worked swiftly to free the teens from the wrecked vehicle, as the collision’s impact had wedged the truck against the train. Despite the derailment, the train remained upright, avoiding further catastrophe.
Surveillance cameras recorded the harrowing moments leading up to the crash, showing the pickup truck barreling down the rain-drenched street before slamming into the Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad train, which was already crossing the tracks.
Nearby resident Michelle Higgins was jolted awake by the noise, thinking it was merely thunder from the storm. Her thoughts are now with the injured teens, expressing hope for their survival.
Investigators revealed that the teenagers ran a red light and broke through the crossing gate before hitting the train. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover why the teens were unable to stop and how such incidents can be prevented in the future.
Speed has been identified as a crucial element in the crash, though details about the velocity and the reasons behind the driver’s actions are still being examined.
