Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the official end of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), formally sticking a fork into an agency that had strayed far from its original purpose.
The agency, which was initially established in 1961 under President John F. Kennedy during the early days of the Cold War, was an instrumental force to counter the global influence of the Soviet Union but like most other American institutions was corrupted and transformed into a money laundering conduit for the Democratic Party and a slush fund for globalists.
USAID is one of the first targets of the new administration as President Donald J. Trump seeks to reform the federal government, having its workforce laid off, its HQ shuttered, and its vital functions absorbed into the Department of State, which took over foreign aid programs on July 1.
In a lengthy post to the State Department’s Substack page on Tuesday, the nation’s top diplomat said that “this era of government-sanctioned inefficiency has officially come to an end.”

“Beyond creating a globe-spanning NGO industrial complex at taxpayer expense, USAID has little to show since the end of the Cold War. Development objectives have rarely been met, instability has often worsened, and anti-American sentiment has only grown,” Rubio said. “On the global stage, the countries that benefit the most from our generosity usually fail to reciprocate.”
“This era of government-sanctioned inefficiency has officially come to an end. Under the Trump Administration, we will finally have a foreign funding mission in America that prioritizes our national interests. As of July 1st, USAID will officially cease to implement foreign assistance. Foreign assistance programs that align with administration policies—and which advance American interests—will be administered by the State Department, where they will be delivered with more accountability, strategy, and efficiency,” Secretary Rubio wrote.
“It’s been run by a bunch of radical lunatics, and we’re getting them out,” Trump told reporters back in February.
The official shutdown of USAID was marked by the usual dishonest hysterics, with media outlets citing a report that claims closing it down will contribute to the deaths of 14 million people over the next five years, including children.

CNN was among the outlets flogging the study published on Monday in The Lancet, with its authors claiming that ending USAID “would be similar in scale to a global pandemic or a major armed conflict.”
The self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” also provided a platform for former USAID Director Samantha Power, with the crooked longtime Obama-Biden official telling Anderson Cooper that the effects will be “devastating” and could lead to the death of millions.
However, a senior State Department official dismissed the Lancet’s doomsaying and is quoted by CNN that “a lot of these sorts of studies are based on incorrect assumptions about what Secretary Rubio intends to and has done before.”
“I think he’s been very clear that a lot of the life-saving work that we do will continue and will be made more efficient,” the official added.
Globalist interloper Bono was joined by former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama in an emotional farewell video to USAID staffers on the final day before it was absorbed by the State Department.
“They called you crooks. When you were the best of us,” the U2 frontman reportedly said in the message, which was leaked to the Associated Press.
The singer, whose real name is Paul David Hewson, also recited a poem that he had written, mourning the agency’s demise and referring to the staffers as “secret agents of international development.”
“Gutting USAID is a travesty, and it’s a tragedy. Because it’s some of the most important work happening anywhere in the world,” Obama said, according to AP, adding ”sooner or later, leaders on both sides of the aisle will realize how much you are needed.”
“You’ve shown the great strength of America through your work — and that is your good heart,’’ Bush reportedly told the staffers. “Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you.”
“USAID viewed its constituency as the United Nations, multinational NGOs, and the broader global community, not the U.S. taxpayers who funded its budget or the President they elected to represent their interests on the world stage. USAID marketed its programs as a charity, rather than instruments of American foreign policy intended to advance our national interests,” Rubio wrote in his statement.
“Too often, these programs promoted anti-American ideals and groups, from global ‘DEI,’ censorship and regime change operations, to NGOs and international organizations in league with Communist China and other geopolitical adversaries,” he added.
