Even though Batman is a fictional character, Gotham would have a far better chance of him swooping in to rescue the city from the communist Joker Zohran Mamdani than hoping Andrew Cuomo will be able to do it.
It’s now official that the unheralded 33-year-old Ugandan-born Muslim won last week’s New York City mayoral primary, a result that only weeks ago seemed inconceivable with the former governor holding a commanding lead and seemingly well on his way to a miraculous political comeback after being run out of office in disgrace four years ago.
Not only did Mamdani come roaring from behind after he landed the endorsements of socialist celebrities Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, but he cleaned the scion of New York political royalty’s clock, not a positive outcome for those who are betting on Cuomo being able to vanquish the foreign menace in November.

According to the numbers, the Democratic Party’s rising new star blew the establishment politician away by a whopping 12 points, posting a 56-44 tally after only three rounds of ranked choice voting. Mamdani pulled around 545,000 total votes, 117,000 more than Cuomo, with the New York Post putting it in perspective that it was the highest number of votes in a Democrat mayoral primary in almost four decades, since David Dinkins faced off against incumbent Mayor Ed Koch in 1989.
It was an astounding showing for a man who previously barely registered on the radar and at the time he entered the field, was given no chance of winning. But the prognosticators and political strategists failed to take into account the appeal of a foreign born social media-savvy jihadi sympathizer in a city chock full of immigrants, Israel haters and left-wing fanatics.
His seductive promises of free stuff aplenty, government-run supermarkets, and hundreds of thousands of new units of affordable housing were also a big selling point, one that Cuomo, or for that matter, any less brazen of a candidate could have ever hoped to have matched.
And he eats rice straight from the bowl with his fingers, an irresistible allure to the third-world transplants who now call the Big Apple home.

He also intends to tax white people to pay for his communist schemes.
Mamdani’s monumental upset has earned him celebrity treatment from the media rarely seen since AOC herself burst onto the scene back in 2018, a former bartender turned modern-day Cinderella, but his win comes at a time when the Democratic Party has been reeling and is demoralized after their 2024 election beatdown. He’s been like a veritable adrenaline shot injected straight into the heart, and mainstream party members are looking to him as the model for their political resurrection.

All the energy is with Mamdani, a full-blown “communist lunatic” as President Donald J. Trump has branded him, a fitting label that comes as a resurfaced video is circulating of the likely next occupant of Gracie Mansion boasting of “seizing the means of production” in language right out of Karl Marx’s “The Communist Manifesto” and language that not even Comrade Bernie himself would dare to utter – at least not in a public setting.
Look for the mayor to capitalize on the president’s strong words to burnish his cred with the rabidly anti-Trump base. The two are already on a collision course, with Trump suggesting that he could have Mamdani arrested if he doesn’t cooperate with ICE.

Trump: “Then we’ll arrest him”

“Well, then we’ll have to arrest him,” Trump said from Florida, where he was touring the new Alligator Alcatraz detention center for criminal illegal aliens.”Look, we don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over them very carefully on behalf of the nation.
Trump also put in a plug for current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is seeking reelection despite being chased out of the Democratic Party after he ran afoul of Joe Biden. Hizzoner could mount a challenge against the communist upstart but lacks the infrastructure and funding that would come from being a member of a major party. He is also deeply disliked by the overwhelmingly Democratic voter base for his perceived disloyalty and willingness to work with Trump.
When it comes to saving New York City, don’t expect much from Cuomo, whose arrogance will only split the anti-Mamdani vote, and those who do consider backing him need only look to the lopsided primary score to see the pitfalls of getting behind a candidate so thoroughly saturated by the stench of prior scandals.
There could also be a mystery candidate yet to emerge, but the grim truth is that there are no heroes who are going to save Gotham from this Joker.
And you know what? Maybe Mamdani is God’s righteous plague on the city for the way that Trump was persecuted there, the site of multiple show trials that would have made the likely next mayor’s ideological forebears in the old Soviet Union proud.
