California man has been indicted for allegedly murdering his wife at an Arizona dementia care facility using a frozen slushy laced with sleeping pills — and later, smothering her with a pillow.
According to the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office, 46-year-old Justin Davidson has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the June 11 death of his wife, Danielle Crosbie-Davidson. She had been receiving long-term care for advanced dementia at the Eternal Spring of Gilbert facility when staff found her dead in her room. Davidson had been staying with her at the time.
Court documents reveal that staff grew suspicious of Davidson after noticing his wife’s declining condition since his arrival. They also reported seeing “suspicious marks” on her body and noted that her tongue appeared blue at the time of her death.
Staff told police that Davidson had been acting erratically — including locking the door to his wife’s room, despite being told not to, and instructing staff not to feed her. When Crosbie-Davidson was found unresponsive, they immediately contacted authorities.
Police say Davidson quickly confessed to not just one, but two separate attempts to kill his wife.
He allegedly first tried to overdose her with 50 to 60 crushed Oxycodone pills — medication she had a prescription for — by mixing them into her food. When that failed, Davidson admitted to buying over-the-counter sleeping pills from Target and dissolving them into a blue-flavored frozen drink from the Arizona-based fast-food chain Eegee’s.
After giving her the drugged slushy, Davidson reportedly smothered his wife with a pillow until she stopped breathing.
Court records also revealed that the couple had a documented history of domestic issues during their time living in Southern California, including previous police involvement.
Davidson is currently being held in Maricopa County Jail on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 11.
This chilling case is still under investigation.
