President Trump dropped a late-night hammer on Elon Musk after the billionaire tech mogul ramped up his criticism of the GOP-backed reconciliation bill, known by supporters as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” And let’s just say—it wasn’t subtle.
Responding around midnight on Truth Social, Trump reminded Musk—and the American people—exactly who’s been raking in government cash while pretending to be a libertarian crusader.
“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one,” Trump wrote.
Musk, who’s spent the last month attacking the bill’s rollbacks on EV subsidies and solar tax breaks, threw a fit when the Senate advanced the legislation earlier this week. He even threatened to primary members of Congress who voted for it—calling them hypocrites for supporting the bill after running on reducing government spending.
That’s when Trump went full throttle.
“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.”
And then came the kicker:
“Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
While Musk was once the golden boy of green tech, Trump’s statement calls out the elephant in the room: without massive federal funding, Musk’s empire would shrink fast.
And the jab at DOGE—the former Director of the Office of Government Ethics, an agency Musk once sought to influence when involved in federal contracts—wasn’t lost on observers. Trump’s message was loud and clear: Elon’s government gravy train might be coming to a screeching halt.
The left loves to treat Musk as some sort of renegade genius, but Trump’s post reminded everyone that when it comes to playing both sides of the fence, Elon Musk might be the biggest welfare king in Silicon Valley.
