I love it when I can sit on the sidelines and watch democrats fight, especially about taxes.
Multnomah County conned voters into approving a heavy tax on the rich to pay for so-called “early childhood education” but only for poor folks.
That turned out to be a lie as the program now pays for preschool for rich kids.
It failed to create the new preschool opportunities for thousands that it promised.
It has destroyed private preschools too.
And it’s sitting on a slush fund of, I kid you not, half a billion dollars it can’t figure out how to spend.
Now, Governor Tina Kotek is frantic that “taxing the rich” is driving those big paychecks out of state…’cause they pay most of the taxes Tina spends down in Salem.
Amazingly, today Kotek sent out a press release declaring that Multnomah County’s preschool- for-all-program, quote “cannot fulfill its promise” and that Multnomah County leaders must learn “to walk and chew gum at the same time”.
Wow. I don’t think “Tent City Tina” is THAT harsh when she talks about the evil Orange man. A Democrat faulting fellow Democrats for failure. It doesn’t get much better than this and maybe spells the end of the single party rule at the state, county and city levels all over Oregon that has left the state in this situation.
When top democrats start hating on taxes, you KNOW they’re too high.
Not to mention that all the academic studies show early education doesn’t help kids succeed. That doesn’t matter to parents who see it as expensive daycare paid for by someone else.
But it does create TONS of high-paying jobs for reliable democrat voters and union dues to fund the democrat machine.
So, Kotek’s in a fight with her biggest voter-base county demanding it stop collecting the tax or she’ll nuke it in 2 years.
Getcher popcorn folks. It’s going to be a doozy.
