The Trump administration’s commitment to eliminating DEI programming within the federal government is bearing fruit once again, as evidenced by recent action taken at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
As the Washington Examiner reports, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem last week announced the elimination of the “Invent2Prevent” program, which utilized taxpayer funds to promote left-wing ideologies in public schools.
Noem says no more
The end of the program was detailed in a DHS press release issued on Thursday.
According to the communication, Invent2Prevent was “a wasteful and highly politicized initiative that cost the American taxpayer over $1.5 million dollars.”
Furthermore, the department stated, “The program accomplished very little towards its apparent mission: preventing terrorism.”
Notably, according to DHS, the program “funnelled taxpayer money into a highly politicized organization called ‘The Eradicate Hate Global Summit.”
That event, Noem’s release indicated, “promoted DEI and LGBTQ ideology at K-12 schools.”
Fulfilling the mandate
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin weighed in on the termination and its alignment with a broader administration push to eradicate this type of expenditure.
“President Trump was given a mandate by the American people to eliminate wasteful government spending, and that is exactly what we are doing,” she began.
McLaughlin added, “This program was not only wasteful, it was also using public money to support an openly partisan and political organization.”
She went on, “Politicized NGOs like Eradicate Hate have been siphoning away taxpayer dollars for far too long. We are ending the grift.”
Biden-era priorities fall
As the Examiner noted, Invent2Prevent was a Biden administration brainchild that got its start in 2021, initially characterized as a way for college and high school students to learn how to prevent targeted violence and terrorism through the development and deployment of innovative initiatives that produce measurable results.”
An advertisement for Invent2Prevent said that the program gives students “a practical and hands-on chance to proactively do something about the issues impacting their schools and local communities.”
However, at least in Noem’s assessment, like many other flowery-sounding programs with seemingly laudable intent, Invent2Prevent turned out to be little more than a DEI that now must come to an end.
