Muslims predominantly vote Democrat in elections in exchange for easy immigration policies and other benefits. So when the city of Hamtramck in Michigan elected the first Muslim mayor in the United States in 2021, not many were alarmed to the possibility of a Muslim rule extending to any big cities. But four years later, Democrats are set to give one of the biggest cities of America to a Muslim mayor’s rule – the New York City (NYC).
On Tuesday night (January 24), the Muslim socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary race against disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani, a 33-year-old Muslim from an Indian family, was born and raised in Uganada and became a US citizen in 2018. He holds dual US-Ugandan citizenship and has been affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America.
Mamdani’s victory in the primaries has made him the presumptive Democrat nominee for the next mayoral election of NYC scheduled for November this year. It has sent political shockwaves among both conservatives and liberals at all levels up to the White House. The day following the Democratic primaries, President Trump slammed Mamdani as a “communist lunatic” on his Truth Social page. He called Mamdani’s win the Democrats crossing the line.

For most conservatives, the scenario of NYC under Mamdani as its mayor translates into the city falling to Islamist rule. And though liberals have ruled NYC for many years, seeing a Muslim immigrant as its mayor deals a crippling blow to the hopes for the city’s liberation back to the American ways of life. Instead, Mamdani’s potential win in November’s mayoral race could do to NYC what Mayor Sadiq Khan, a Muslim from a Pakistani immigrant family, did to the British capital city of London.
William Wolfe, a prominent Baptist and Trump Appointee at State & DOD, expressed this concern on his X page, saying, “God save us.”
Widely followed MAGA commentator Laura Loomer, a prominent Jewish American conservative, posted a series of posts about Mamdani’s win in the mayoral primaries and went as far as saying that Mamdani is an Islamist jihadist who wants Americans murdered.
Other popular conservatives on X, both American and abroad, expressed the same concern for NYC falling to Islamist rule and becoming the next London, or worse.
Responding to Mamdani’s campaign promise to kick Trump’s “fascist” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) out of NYC, Trump’s border czar Tom Homan told Fox News that he’s going to double down on capturing the illegal aliens in sanctuary cities like NYC.
But conservatives aren’t the only ones worried about NYC’s future under a mayor who is at once Islamist and a socialist. New York’s current mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat who fell out of favor with his party’s central leadership owing to his opposition to letting criminal illegal aliens roam free in NYC, vowed to save his city from Mamdani. The New York Post (June 25) cited Adams calling Mamdani a “snake oil salesman” who will destroy NYC with his unrealistic campaign promises of giving New Yorkers everything for free.
Adams chose to skip the Democrat primaries but plans to run for re-election in November as an Independent candidate while battling the corruption charges brought against him and members of his administration by the Democrats after he opposed Biden’s immigration policies.
For conservative representation in the NYC mayoral race, Republican Curtis Sliwa will be on the ballot in November. A radio talk show host and founder of the crime prevention organization The Guardian Angels, Curtis encouraged concerned New Yorkers not to be intimidated by Mamdani’s win in the primaries. In his post on X, Curtis wrote: “The race is not over. It’s just begun. New Yorkers have a choice. And I will never stop fighting for you. Let’s win this on November 4th!”
