Calls for justice intensified this week after the leak of a classified intelligence report regarding U.S. military strikes in Iran prompted outrage from Republican lawmakers and members of President Donald Trump’s inner circle.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), speaking with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Thursday, indicated that the leak may have originated from within Congress, specifically from lawmakers with access to classified briefings through intelligence committees.
The initial Defense Intelligence Agency assessments are received by members of Congress serving on specific committees, and it was noted by Graham, who added that it would not require a Sherlock Holmes-level analysis to suggest the leak may have been politically motivated to weaken President Trump’s narrative.
Although the senator did not identify a specific lawmaker, he emphasized that anyone responsible, regardless of title, should face jail time for releasing sensitive national security information.
Speculation has also extended beyond Congress. According to reports cited by the Daily Mail, officials within Trump’s orbit believe Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard may have come under scrutiny as the administration investigates the breach. Gabbard was notably absent from a key classified briefing on Operation Midnight Hammer, which Trump officials say destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities.
Although no official accusations have been made, insiders suggest that Gabbard’s prior positioning within the administration may have made her a convenient target during internal discussions about the breach. One Trump official stated she would not be included in the next round of briefings to Congress an omission seen by some as a sign of distrust.
It was observed by Trump biographer Michael Wolff that, within the narrative often linked to Trump, the default response is typically centered on assigning blame, with the suggestion being made that Tulsi had become the most recent target.
Gabbard’s exclusion was reportedly made prior to a classified session attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, during which evidence intended to support the success of the strikes was planned to be presented by the administration.
President Trump himself has grown visibly frustrated with mainstream media coverage from outlets such as CNN and The New York Times, which claimed that the operation failed to hinder Iran’s nuclear enrichment. According to White House sources, the president has since ordered a reduction in the frequency of briefings on military operations to limit exposure.
While Wolff has speculated that Gabbard is being positioned as a scapegoat, a senior administration official downplayed such reports, saying the media is turning this into something it’s not.
Nonetheless, concern remains high as intelligence officials continue to investigate the breach. Whether the leak came from Capitol Hill or inside the executive branch, conservatives have insisted that accountability must follow.
It was stated clearly by Graham that the message was straightforward: individuals who leak classified intelligence, whether to harm the president or for personal benefit, should not hold positions in government and ought to face imprisonment.
