ALGONA, WA – Police are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a deadly highway shooting that claimed one life overnight. The incident occurred on Highway 167, just north of Ellington Road, near the Algona exit.
State patrol officers are currently searching for two vehicles potentially linked to the shooting. It remains unclear whether the act was a calculated attack or a result of road rage. The shooting took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. during rush hour, a time when the highway was bustling with traffic, raising concerns about additional victims.
A witness reported the incident, leading authorities to discover a man deceased in the driver’s seat of a car parked on the shoulder. Multiple gunshots were fired, and detectives spent several hours at the scene gathering evidence. The highway was subsequently reopened early this morning.
State patrol emphasized the potential for greater tragedy, noting the heavy traffic at the time. “It could have been way more tragic,” a trooper at the scene noted, highlighting the fortunate avoidance of further casualties.
Authorities are seeking a 1990s red or maroon Ford Explorer and a silver Subaru BRZ from model years 2018 to 2020. They urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Highway 167 near Ellington Road last night to come forward with information or dashcam footage that might aid in the investigation.
The search for the suspect continues as detectives work tirelessly to piece together the events of the night. Community members are encouraged to assist by reporting any relevant information to law enforcement.
