A Florida man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly luring his landlord over for dinner—then brutally attacking her and crashing his car into their shared home in a shocking outburst.
Authorities say 69-year-old Brian Thomas Leach invited his landlord, who lives upstairs from him in a Jensen Beach home, to come down for a meal on Tuesday evening. But once she entered the lower-level apartment, things turned violent fast.
“After luring the victim downstairs under the pretense of dinner, Leach viciously beat her, then crashed his vehicle into the home in an apparent fit of rage,” the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Deputies arrived at the home on Northeast Ocean View Circle—about 100 miles north of Miami—where they found a grisly and chaotic scene. Photos released by officials show a damaged Toyota RAV4 with blood on it, a smashed section of the house, and blood splattered across the hallway inside.
The woman, whose name has not been released, suffered “severe injuries” in the attack.
Investigators believe Leach was furious over a proposed eviction, according to local station WPTV. After the assault and car crash, he reportedly slashed his own arms with a knife before deputies arrested him at the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment under police watch.
Video shows Leach being released from the hospital barefoot and limping, appearing dazed as he was transferred to the Martin County Jail, where he remains in custody.
The attempted murder charge against Leach could carry a life sentence if he’s convicted. As of now, no court date has been announced.
