Democrats’ green agenda has a potential nightmare on their hands after a ship was lost at sea.
According to reports, a ship loaded with EVs caught fire, then sank, putting thousands of vehicles on the ocean’s floor.
The nature of the batteries could be a potential environmental disaster.
They’re gone
According to reports, the Morning Midas caught fire on June 3 off the southern coast of Adak, Alaska.
There were more than 3,000 vehicles on the ship, with more than 700 being hybrids or fully electric vehicles.
The ship also had 350 metric tons of marine gas oil and 1,530 metric tons of very-low-sulfur fuel oil on board.
The crew of 22 was safely evacuated from the ship.
The Marine Link reported that the water where the ship sank was about 16,000 feet deep.
Tugboats had been sent to the location, but weather and water damage contributed to the ship sinking quicker than the tugs could get there to tow the ship back to port.
There were numerous videos posted of the ship as this was all taking place in real time.
The ship left with its cargo load from China, and it was heading to Mexico when the fire engulfed the ship.
The Coast Guard stated that the presence of lithium batteries presented a challenge in terms of being able to extinguish the blaze.
Because lithium batteries can explode when they are on fire, responders had to keep their distance for fear of just such an event.
No report has been issued on the fire as of yet, but one would have to think the combination of lithium batteries and oil being dumped into the ocean is not going to be very good for the environment.
We have seen EV fires present challenges for first responders across the country, as they often have to allow these fires to burn out rather than extinguish them because of the volatile nature of the fire.
Sean DeCrane, a director with the International Association of Fire Fighters, forgive the pun, poured more gasoline on this fire by stating that the fire on the ship “does sound consistent with a failure in electric vehicles, especially the deployment of the CO2 system and the reignition.”
This is clearly something that will have to be investigated, especially with Democrats pushing so hard to move beyond combustion engines and more to EVs.
Think about it… if Harris had won, gasoline-powered vehicles would likely have been a collector’s item by the end of her term.
