Ron DeSantis has been watching New York’s mayoral race with great interest.
He knows what happens when leftist politicians take control of major cities.
And Ron DeSantis can’t stop grinning after this socialist’s shocking lead in NYC just crushed Andrew Cuomo.
DeSantis predicts Florida real estate boom if socialist wins NYC
A bombshell new poll from Emerson College, PIX 11, and The Hill has completely upended New York City’s Democrat mayoral primary race.
Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani has surged past disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the final round of ranked-choice voting.
The poll shows that while Cuomo initially leads 35% to 32% among likely Democrat voters, the different polls show conflicting results for ranked-choice voting outcomes, with some showing Mamdani winning by narrow margins and others showing Cuomo maintaining his lead.
Governor Ron DeSantis couldn’t help but weigh in on the stunning development during a press conference in Clearwater Beach on Monday.
“Just when you thought Palm Beach real estate couldn’t go any higher…,” DeSantis said with obvious amusement.
DeSantis made it clear he wasn’t making predictions about the race itself, but he had strong opinions about what a Mamdani victory would mean for Florida.
“If that leftist does win, you’re going to see Palm Beach real estate go up another 20%,” DeSantis warned. “Because as bad as some of what they’ve had, this is like De Blasio on steroids.”
Population data supports DeSantis’s observations about migration patterns.
According to the Citizens Budget Commission, a New York fiscal watchdog group, over 151,000 New Yorkers relocated to Florida between 2018 and 2022.
About 30,000 of these former New Yorkers settled in Palm Beach or Miami-Dade counties, bringing approximately $9 billion in income with them.
DeSantis explained his reasoning based on past experience with similar elections.
“When Chicago elected Brandon Johnson, Naples real estate prices jumped because voters saw the situation getting worse and decided to relocate,” DeSantis noted.
Mamdani’s radical agenda has wealthy New Yorkers running scared
Zohran Mamdani isn’t hiding his far-left agenda from voters.
The Queens state assemblyman’s campaign platform includes taxing the wealthiest 1% of New Yorkers.
This socialist tax scheme has already sent shockwaves through New York’s political establishment.
Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul pledged not to raise taxes for fear of losing affluent state residents to Palm Beach County.
She told Pix 11 that she opposed Mamdani’s proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy, saying, “I don’t want to lose more people to Palm Beach. We’ve lost enough.”
Hochul knows what DeSantis knows – when radical leftists take power, productive citizens vote with their feet.
The poll numbers show Mamdani’s momentum is real and growing.
City Comptroller Brad Lander received 13% of the vote, followed by City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams at 8%, Scott Stringer with 3%, and smaller percentages for other candidates including Zellnor Myrie, Whitney Tilson, Jessica Ramos and Michael Blake, with some voters undecided.
However, 50% of the vote is needed for a candidate to win outright in the city’s primary.
What’s particularly concerning for moderate Democrats is how Mamdani is gaining support.
According to the poll, most of Lander’s votes shifted to Mamdani in round eight when Lander was eliminated.
Lander also cross-endorsed Mamdani as the preferred candidate if he weren’t to win the primary, giving the self-described socialist a leg-up with voters looking for another option.
Even more damaging for Cuomo, the left-wing Working Families Party also urged voters not to vote for Cuomo, who was governor of New York from 2011 to 2021.
Cuomo’s scandals paved the way for socialist surge
Andrew Cuomo’s political comeback attempt has been rocky from the start.
Cuomo resigned before the end of his term following allegations of sexual misconduct.
He announced his intention to run for mayor of New York City in March.
The former Governor’s baggage has clearly hurt his chances with Democrat primary voters.
Last month, another Emerson poll showed Cuomo with a 12-point edge over Mamdani, including an 8-point spread in the 10th round of ranked choice voting.
But that comfortable lead has completely evaporated as voters have had more time to consider their options.
Mamdani’s rise represents everything wrong with the modern Democrat Party.
The party has moved so far left that a self-described socialist can now compete for mayor of America’s largest city.
This radical shift explains why so many New Yorkers have already fled to Florida and other conservative states.
DeSantis watching the exodus with satisfaction
Governor DeSantis has made Florida the destination of choice for Americans fleeing failed Democrat policies.
“I follow these things because it affects us,” DeSantis said.
He’s seen this movie before and knows how it ends.
When radical leftists take control of major cities, the results are predictable – rising crime, higher taxes, more regulations, and an exodus of productive citizens.
The winner of Tuesday’s primary will likely become New York City’s next mayor, given the city’s heavy Democrat lean.
The general election is scheduled for November.
If Mamdani pulls off the upset victory, it would represent a stunning triumph for the socialist wing of the Democrat Party.
But it would also vindicate everything Ron DeSantis has been saying about the direction of blue state America.
New Yorkers would face the choice between living under socialist policies or joining the hundreds of thousands who have already discovered the Florida difference.
Based on the polling trends and DeSantis’s track record of predictions, Palm Beach real estate agents should start preparing for another wave of New York refugees seeking freedom in the Sunshine State.
