I’ve looked through every piece of scientific literature and medical research available, and I have yet to find even a slight correlation between use of the N-word and an increase in heart disease or obesity among Black Americans. That makes it all the more confusing why Jamaal Bowman would choose to blame the majority of the American population for health disparities that are generally considered preventable for everyone else.
Jamaal Bowman has a lot of foolish takes, but this one really takes the cake. He claims there’s a correlation between the N-word and higher rates of obesity and heart disease in the Black community. But what I don’t understand is — if that were true, then why isn’t it true? And why does nearly every rap song include the word? Surely Black rappers wouldn’t want to increase preventable health diseases among their fans, would they?
Wow. Who would’ve thought you could be that naive and still so passionate? And did he really bring up Rodney King? LOLOLOL. And of course — January 6th. Because, of course.
How many times must America acknowledge this “sin”? And why does he act as if the United States is the only country in history to have ever had slavery? If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was implying that Americans invented slavery — but anyone with even a fraction of a brain knows that couldn’t be further from the truth.
It’s also pretty comical that he blames Republicans for racism, when if we’re going to talk about this “original sin,” the Democrats continue to shed the blame on everyone else, even though they literally fought a war to keep slavery. If we want to cast blame for this original sin, then maybe, just maybe, we shouldn’t blame the party that fought a war to end it. And maybe, just perhaps, he should be thanking them.
While it’s great that Jamaal has finally figured out how to cure heart disease and obesity, something tells me this is more of a personal choice problem than a racism problem. But as he said, the day Republicans hold themselves accountable for God knows what, that will be the day Black health is truly optimized. Until then, we can only hope rappers stop using the N-word to fix America’s original sin.
