When it comes to federal funding, Americans are speaking loud and clear: they don’t want their tax dollars bankrolling gender ideology — or abortion, for that matter.
A poll from Life Leadership Conference (LLC), first obtained by Breitbart, revealed 64% of registered voters oppose their hard-earned tax dollars going toward “an organization that provides puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and other gender transition treatments for minors.” Of those in opposition, 76% were Republicans, 71% were Independents, and Democrats were evenly split 44% to 44%.
The poll’s findings gain added context from a recent Live Action investigation, highlighted by Breitbart, which alleged that Planned Parenthood — known as the nation’s largest abortion business and second-largest distributor of gender transition drugs — has been offering hormone treatments to minors as young as 16 with minimal parental consent or medical oversight. This revelation comes as Congress debates the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which aims to eliminate taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood through Medicaid.

David Bereit, executive director of LLC, emphasized the public’s stance, stating, “The overwhelming majority of Americans strongly oppose their tax dollars bankrolling organizations that target minors for irreversible, sterilizing sex-change treatments and abortions — especially without parental involvement or consent.” He further urged, “Taxpayer funding should uplift American families, not Planned Parenthood — an organization actively undermining parents and harming children. Americans are sending an unmistakable message to Congress: No more forced taxpayer funding of abortion and sex-change hormone providers!”
The poll reflects a growing public demand for fiscal policies that align with deeply held values, particularly on divisive issues like gender transition treatments for minors and abortion funding. As legislative debates intensify, these findings signal a clear call for reform. This sentiment was echoed on Tuesday’s “Washington Watch,” hosted by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, featuring Dr. Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
“Well, here’s the reality,” said Perkins, “despite the historic Dobbs decision, the number of abortions in the U.S. has actually increased. Yes, you heard me right. It’s increased. According to the Guttmacher Institute, formerly the research arm of Planned Parenthood, there were an estimated 1,032,100 abortions in the year 2023. … [T]hat’s the most recent year for which data is available,” he emphasized, noting “a significant rise from the 930,160 abortions in 2021, the year before Roe was overturned.”
Perkins continued, “[T]his increase has occurred even though 41 states have laws on the books that offer varying degrees of protection for unborn children and their mothers. So, how is this happening?” Both Perkins and Mohler pointed to the rise of chemical abortion, which, as Perkins noted, “now accounts for 63% of all abortions in the U.S.”
Mohler reflected on the broader context, stating, “[T]he Dobbs decision three years ago was basically a miracle. We’re very thankful for it. But [it] also points to the fact that Roe v. Wade in 1973 was such an atrocity. It is not only bad constitutional interpretation, it’s dishonest and it’s deadly.” He explained that overturning Roe took “a half-century,” paving the way for Dobbs to return the abortion issue to the states. “I wish the decision had gone further,” Mohler added, “but it did return the question to the states.”
Mohler highlighted the stark divide in the nation. “We have a red-blue America,” he said. “We have a pro-life and we have a pro-abortion America. This is what you heard from Senator Schumer, [that] they’re never going to be satisfied until every single abortion at every stage of pregnancy is fully legal and, frankly, paid for by taxpayers.” He noted that chemical abortions, now the most common type of abortion, are often hidden “from public sight” but remain subject to federal regulation. “And that’s where we need to be paying a lot of our attention right now,” he urged.
According to Mohler, at least one thing is clear: “There is a political legal remedy: If there’s a conviction in the White House, there’s the possibility of undoing this.” The Trump administration, he stressed, needs to see chemical abortion for what it is, namely, “a human pesticide.”
“I’ll be very candid,” Perkins chimed in, “I want to see all abortions outlawed in this country. I want to see every single child, regardless of what zip code they’re conceived in, welcomed into this world and protected under our laws.” He acknowledged the need for a cultural shift, noting, “it’s a process of changing hearts, changing minds,” but stressed that “the law is a tutor.”
Perkins also called out the inconsistency of claiming to be pro-life while tolerating the distribution of abortion pills through the mail. Mohler agreed, labeling it “a grotesque inconsistency” and “sheer political cowardice.” He added, “We need to make very clear: you’re not pro-life if you do not seek to shut down this unconstitutional, illegal business of the abortion pill.”
Emphasizing the dual nature of the fight, Perkins explained how “we need to realize that laws are important and we’re going to advocate to change those laws and those policies.” Yet, he stressed, “there is a spiritual battle. We see the grip that the spirit of death has upon our country. … We [may have] changed the court, … but we have not walked this all the way through to reestablish the freedom that God has given us to be a nation that embraces life. There is a spiritual battle here that has to be waged, and it can only be waged by the church.”
Perkins summed up the moral imperative: “America can’t be great until it is first good. We’re not going to be politically … [or] militarily great until we’re morally good. [A]nd … there’s nothing more fundamental than embracing human life created in the image of God.”
Mohler concurred, asserting, “[T]he culture of death kills. But on the way to killing, it lies. And those lies we just have to expose day after day” — “the lies about the pill, the lies about the unborn child. Just … lies upon lies upon lies on the way to death.” He concluded, “[N]o one said this was going to be easy. But this is the fight we’ve been called to fight.”
