Amidst the souring relationship between President Donald Trump and former “First Buddy” Elon Musk, the billionaire tech mogul has reportedly floated the idea of forming a “new political party in America” that “actually represents the 80% in the middle.” Knewz.com has learned that the trouble in paradise began over Musk’s harsh criticism of President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful” spending bill, which the SpaceX CEO labeled a “disgusting abomination.”

However, Trump has since responded to Musk’s threats of forming a new political party — and long story short, he is not exactly concerned. Trump responded to Musk’s comments in a phone call with Fox News host Bret Baier in which he said that he was not worried about the threat: “Trump is not worried about threats of a third party. … President Trump also pointed to his favorable polls and his strong support among Capitol Hill Republicans,” said Fox News host and former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany in a summary of the phone call.

Musk has been heavily critical of the president’s flagship spending bill, posting on X, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore… This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination… Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.” Musk also shared a graphic depicting rising national debt over the past three decades, writing, “Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America! ENOUGH.” He also said that Trump’s new spending bill “more than defeats all the cost savings achieved by the [Department of Government Efficiency] team at great personal cost and risk.”

Musk also maintained that the bill would “balloon the federal deficit,” according to reports. It is worth noting in this regard that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), a nonpartisan group that analyzes government spending, warned that Trump’s flagship spending bill would add $3.8 trillion to the federal government’s $36.2 trillion in debt. GOP representatives Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson, both of whom voted against the spending package in the House, also share Musk’s opinion on the matter, reports have mentioned. President Trump retorted to Musk’s claims, saying he had “lost his mind” and threatened to terminate the billionaire’s government contracts, which have an estimated value of $38 billion, according to reports. “I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president,” the President said in an interview at the time.

However, Musk has since softened his stance on Trump, expressing regret over some of his earlier comments. The Tesla CEO wrote in a recent post on X, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” Musk’s post came after Trump hinted at the possibility of reconciliation between the two during a recent interview, saying, “I think [Musk] feels very badly that he said that.” The President said that although he was a “little disappointed” about the fallout, there were “no hard feelings.” According to reports, Musk seemingly deleted several of his headline-making posts including one calling for Trump’s impeachment.
