Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made waves Tuesday with a striking historical reference linking President John F. Kennedy’s assassination to his opposition to Israel’s nuclear ambitions.
The comment, made in a post on X, came as she pushed back on criticism for questioning President Donald Trump’s recent strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
“There was once a great President that the American people loved. He opposed Israel’s nuclear program. And then he was assassinated,” Greene wrote.
The remark appeared in a thread where Greene reaffirmed her stance against U.S. military intervention, calling for peace and expressing concern about consequences for those who speak out.
She posted the message in response to Fox News host Mark Levin, who harshly criticized her opposition to Trump’s weekend strikes on Iran, calling her “stupid” and telling her to “keep banging your head against the wall.”
Greene shot back in a lengthy reply.
“This is extremely sick and disturbing,” she wrote, before accusing Levin of using the same tone and rhetoric as individuals who issue death threats against her “every single day.”
She added, “I will do my best to pray for you. But I will be watchful now.”
Greene then introduced the JFK reference, appearing to draw a parallel between speaking out against war and the fate of leaders who do so.
She also questioned whether her safety might now be in jeopardy due to her outspoken views.
In the early 1960s, Kennedy expressed serious concerns about Israel’s nuclear ambitions.
According to declassified documents released by the National Security Archive in 2016, Kennedy demanded that Israel submit to periodic inspections of its Dimona nuclear facility, citing global security concerns.
Though Israel has never officially confirmed possessing nuclear weapons, it is widely believed to have developed them in secrecy during the Cold War, according to Politico.
Greene continued in her thread by invoking Trump’s own recent rebuke of Israel, writing, “What about President Trump who strongly rebuked Israel this morning for continuing to attack Iran?”
She framed her position as one grounded in a deep commitment to peace and a firm opposition to foreign military interventions—whether initiated directly by the United States or supported indirectly through allied nations.
Her remarks made clear that, in her view, promoting stability abroad should not come at the cost of American involvement in endless overseas conflicts.
A representative for Levin did not respond to a request for comment regarding the exchange.
Greene has drawn national attention for her views on foreign policy, military action and historical events.
In 2018, she shared concerns online about wildfire causes, including a theory involving satellite technology and financial interests, which was met with public criticism.
Her latest comments come amid renewed debate over President Trump’s decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities.
While many Republicans have backed the operation, Greene has expressed caution, citing concerns about potential escalation.
Whether Greene’s reference to Kennedy was intended as a literal allegation or a broader historical comparison is unclear.
What is clear is that her remarks have once again set her apart from many within her party on matters of U.S. military action abroad.
