President Donald Trump confirmed he would authorize additional military action against Iran if the nation continues developing its nuclear weapons program.
Speaking to reporters at the NATO summit, Trump gave a direct response when asked about potential future strikes.
“Sure,” the president replied when questioned whether the United States would strike again if Iran persisted with nuclear enrichment activities.
The president’s comments came amid controversy over leaked intelligence assessments regarding recent military operations against Iranian nuclear facilities.
The leaked assessment was reported by CNN and The New York Times, prompting harsh criticism from the president.
Trump launched a social media attack against both news organizations, posting from the Netherlands where he attended the NATO summit.
“FAKE NEWS CNN, TOGETHER WITH THE FAILING NEW YORK TIMES, HAVE TEAMED UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO DEMEAN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MILITARY STRIKES IN HISTORY,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president posted his message at approximately 4 AM local Netherlands time during the international summit, the Daily Mail reported.
Trump characterized the news outlets as “scum” during his press conference remarks about their coverage of the leaked documents.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt supported the president’s position, dismissing the intelligence assessment.
“Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration,” Leavitt stated.
The Daily Mail reported that Leavitt described the leaked assessment as a “clear attempt to demean President Trump.”
Trump also launched a blistering attack on CNN and MSNBC Tuesday, branding the major news networks “gutless losers” during a heated and confrontational exchange on the White House south lawn.
The president’s explosive fury erupted over the networks’ persistent questioning of whether B-2 bomber strikes had successfully “completely and totally obliterated” three strategic nuclear facilities positioned outside Tehran.
Trump forcefully demanded both media outlets issue formal public apologies to the courageous military pilots who executed the highly dangerous and complex mission.
“I think it’s been completely demolished. I think that the reason we’re here is because those pilots, those B-2 pilots, did an unbelievable job,” Trump declared while CNN cameras rolled.
The president’s remarks came as he fielded questions about the ongoing Middle East conflict from assembled White House correspondents.
Trump accused CNN of deliberately downplaying the mission’s effectiveness while brave pilots risked their lives for national security.
“And the fake news, CNN in particular, they’re trying to say ‘well, I agree that it was destroyed but maybe not that destroyed.’ You know what they’re doing? They’re hurting great pilots who put their lives on the line. CNN is scum, and so is MSDNC,” Trump stated.
Trump emphasized the extraordinary difficulty of the mission, noting the strikes occurred during complete darkness without any moonlight to assist navigation or targeting.
“They hit late in the evening, it was dark with no moon, and they hit that target with every one of those things,” Trump explained.
Trump escalated his public criticism of both networks, calling for formal and immediate apologies from CNN and MSNBC to the military personnel directly involved in the Iran strikes.
“When I see CNN, all night long they’re trying to say ‘well, maybe it wasn’t really as demolished as we thought’ … I will say, I think CNN ought to apologize to the pilots of the B-2’s, I think that MSDNC ought to apologize,” Trump continued.
The president extended his harsh condemnation beyond cable news networks, describing various mainstream media outlets as complete failures in their responsibility to accurately report on American military achievements.
“I think these guys, these networks and these cable networks are real losers. You really are, you’re real losers,” Trump added, directing his pointed comments toward assembled White House reporters and correspondents from various news organizations.
CNN’s controversial coverage included extensive commentary from Jeffrey Lewis, a weapons expert and professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
Lewis disputed and challenged the extent of damage caused by the B-2 bombers, arguing they inflicted only “restricted” damage to the targeted nuclear facilities rather than complete destruction.
The weapons expert told CNN that the B-2 bombers failed to deploy the more powerful “bunker-buster” bombs, characterizing the entire military action as “an incomplete strike.”
This professional assessment directly contradicted Trump’s public claims about the operation’s total and overwhelming success against Iranian nuclear infrastructure.
“Even if the US was successful in destroying Iran’s facility at Fordow—another underground site that housed centrifuges needed to enrich uranium, which the US hit with 12 bunker busters—the obvious survival of Isfahan has raised questions about whether Trump achieved his stated goal of ‘a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terror,’” CNN reported.
MSNBC host Abby Phillip questioned whether facilities were truly “obliterated” during a Monday “News Night” segment.
Phillip argued it remained “too early” to accurately assess the full extent of damage from the military strikes.
MSNBC also challenged Trump’s claims by citing General Dan Caine, who stated it was “way too early” to conduct a “meaningful assessment” of the operation’s impact.
The network questioned the “reliability” of presidential statements about the mission’s success.
Trump announced the “very successful attack” on Iranian nuclear sites Saturday, warning the nation would face “far greater” consequences if it refused to pursue peace.
Trump announced Monday that Iran and Israel had reached a ceasefire agreement, though he expressed frustration when both nations violated the deal the following day.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard, that they don’t know what the f**k they are doing,” Trump said regarding the collapsed ceasefire arrangement.
